Great Experience at Iberostar Toucan late August
First, thank you to all who have posted here - I used the info to pick the Iberostar Toucan for a 4 night 5 day trip which began on August 30th.
I found the hotel to be splendid. The pool was gorgeous, and that little jungle was incredible with peacocks, these small furry creatures that looked like rats with mini tails, the wild cocks, pink flamingoes, peacocks, and monkeys. You may or may not see monkeys - the jungle is not over run with them. While we were there I spotted and photographed them one morning, but my wife, a late riser, never did see any. No biggie. I found the buffet food to be above average and the scenery by each of the two main buffets was incredible. Coi ponds surrounding one, and the other had waterfalls on each side of a small bridge. The evening shows were sometimes hokey, but free and sometimes even funny and entertaining. The folkloric dancers were great. Do all inclusive - that was wonderful and it included the mini bar and a limited menu room service plus of course drinks. Our room was in building 15, near the buffet, and on the edge of the jungle. It was quiet, except in the morning when the cocks crowed like roosters. Again for us, no biggie. TV is limited, but we brought our own portable DVD player and each night we would eat dinner then watch a movie we brought then go down and see the show. Xcaret is a must do and only a 5-10 minute cab ride from the hotel for $10. To get to Playa Carmen and shop on 5th avenue is only $4. We were only supposed to get one dinner reservation at one of the 4 gourmet restaurants but because we made it at the last minute, they gave us a second one. We ate at the Mexican and Italian restaurants and both were excellent. I heard the Steakhouse was good too. The main pool is gorgeous and the beach is nice too, with lots of free water sports. Plenty to do. On the first day I left a note for the maid to bring more water, and she brought me 8 bottles the next day! She made little towel sculptures with flowers. Absolutely no complaints and we hope to go back there soon. I will post more later. Stu Cassell |
