We have always rented while in PDC. We have driven all over including a hair raising ride down the road to Punta Allen. The biggest problem we ever had with a rental was last year when my goofball brother parked illegally and got a ticket ... but they also take your license plate until you go pay the ticket. Other than that, we have never had a problem of any kind. I do recommend getting the insurance as it can save you quite a bit of hassle if you have an accident.
