Ya know...I guess I've become more adventurous in my old age. As Chris said, I don't seem like the type to jump off the cliff. I remember thinking...OMG, just don't go in in a sitting position and break your a$$! I tried to do my very best "pencil dive..." Straight in, no splash. I can't say how much splash there really was, I just hope it wasn't cannonball-esque! ![]() ![]() ![]() aw! thanks honey! He was brave too!

Did you say cliff diving
Hey Eileence,
We went cliff diving too. At the Xel Ha, Riviera Maya ( with out a camara waiting at the bottom either ) ![]() I swore on my life that I would NEVER EVER do that, I am scared to death of that feeling of falling, it would be to the equivalent of some one with the fear of spiders. Well myelf & my husband, & Gail (avagirl) and her husband, decided to go. Gail & I were really scared, but we decided to do it. Our husbands, Joe & Joe just loved it. So Gail & I said we would hold hands and die, ( oh I mean jump) together, we got to the edge, ready to do it,,,,and we both suddenly STOPPED short. I thought for sure one of us was going over alone. LOL We then were not going to do this, we were freaking out. Then all of a sudden again, I got my nerve up and said lets not think about lets just go. I figure that the best way to get over a fear is to face it right ?? So we grabbed hands and jumped ! I know that yelled "oh my god" all the way down, It felt like an eternity getting to the bottom. We did manage to keep holding hands till we hit bottom, but I don't know what on earth possesed me to pull my legs up to my chest ...but holy ----, when I it that water, it was a belly whopper on my bum ! I was in so much PAIN. . Gail was feeling pain in her upper area, I ended up with bruises on my bum ALL OVER, bigger then soft balls.I looked like I was beaten up. Needless to say, I will never do that again, if I had to jump to save my life, I seriously would need to be pushed. I think Gail took that pledge to never do that again too!I really wish we had a picture... |

I want to do a couple the day we do Tulum, but I won't be able to do an organized tour this time and we need to find them on my own. |

Day 4 Wednesday, August 13 Let’s Meet Some Peeps!
After our busy day Tuesday, we decided to just chlll at the resort today. After breakfast, we explored the resort a little bit, played mini golf at the surprisingly beautiful 18 hole course. I had some nice pics of us playing, but after we played, I went ahead to the room and tried to figure out the problem with the flash on the camera. Fiddled and diddled with every control on the camera. I had the instruction book with me too, but all the setup instructions for the flash were covered in a different guide, the Getting Started Guide. Well, I get to the Memory setting, and it says the size of the card 1.88 Gig, and asks me, is that the correct format? (Well, I thought that’s what it was asking me. Actually it just said Format…OK or Cancel.) Yeah, I hit OK, and in the blink of an eye nearly 300 pictures were gone. The next message displayed in the window said “No image.” Wha???
No image? I have images, I have LOTS of images! WTF??? Where did they go??? The family came back to the room to find me dissolved in tears. All those great pics gone. I felt like kicking myself in the a$$! I love looking at and sharing family vacation pictures. I was so sad for the rest of the day. But, looking at the issue from the “glass half full” perspective, I somehow fixed the problem with the flash, and the camera was fine for the rest of the trip. From the glass half empty perspective, the next big mistake I made was to go on and take over 200 additional pictures on the same memory card. I was later told that it may have been possible to retrieve the pictures if I had just taken the card out after formatting it and using a new card (which I had in the camera bag.) Oh well, trust me, I will never make that mistake again. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyway, for the rest of the day, we head down to the beach, explore all the beautiful pools and just do what we do best…NOTHING AT ALL! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We are heading into town early for tonight’s peep meet so we head up to the room at around 3pm to get ready. I’ve been in touch with Tonya (Tesla), Kim (Silvergirl), and Nancy (Maestranba) about this peep meet, and we’re planning to meet earlier with our families for dinner at La Pesca. Actually, Tonya has given me directions to the condo she owns with her husband Harold, and we’re going to meet there for drinks before dinner. Our taxi drops us off right around the corner from Tonya and Harold’s place. It’s not far off Fifth Avenue, and let me tell you, the place is fantastic. You enter an iron gate and walk into a lush tropical garden courtyard, with the condos overlooking it. Harold comes down to get us. We’re the first to arrive, and Tonya greets us with big hugs. We get a tour of the condo…everywhere you look there are beautiful decorator touches, as well as several of Tonya’s art. OMG, I want that beach scene done with acid on copper in the bedroom! Tonya and Harold have invited their neighbors Veejay and Diamente (sp? Sorry!) to party with us…and Veejay brings the party! He is world renowned for his special recipe margaritas. As he’s preparing them, Kim (silvergirl) shows up with her handsome son Zac, and who’s this? Susie Q Roo! OMG…I’m in heaven, I’m in the same room with some of the peeps I’ve always wanted to meet! Hugs all around and lots of pictures. ![]() And of course, Veejay keeps pouring his awesome margaritas! Those things were killer! We have dinner reservations at LaPesca, so we have to get going. At the restaurant, Nancy, Ed, and their son Christian join us. ![]() It’s a tiny place, and our large party is the only clientele this evening. We get very attentive (maybe not so speedy!)service! Most of the group (although not me and my family) have been here before and know what to order. Susie and Kim speak very highly of the shrimp casserole, so Charlie and I both get that, along with some shrimp tacos. The food was terrific, but no pics of that, sorry. Here are a few shots of our dinner companions: Our kids ![]() Kim and Zac ![]() Me and Charlie ![]() Susie and Kim ![]() Tonya and Harold ![]() Veejay and Diamente ![]() No time to linger over dinner because we have to move on to the Beer Bucket, because we’ve organized a Peep Meet, and people are already there! We roll into the Bucket, and the first order of business…Charlie and Harold both have license plates to hand over to Jez in return for a free beer and a Beer Bucket T-shirt. Aw, Jez is not here, but we scope out Duke, who’s in charge of hanging the plates on the walls of the bucket. He’s very happy with the new contributions and tell us the plates will go up in the morning. The walls are really starting to fill up with plates…looking good! Here’s a shot of the proud owner of a new BB t-shirt! Woohoo! ![]() With that out of the way, we settle in to socialize for a while. The place is filled with peeps. All our dinner companions, plus Debbie and Mark, their friends from Texas, Eddie (ewill) and his lovely wife Tami, Rick (Babaloo), Judy (Judy Blue Eyes), and yes, even Jez shows up a little later! Somehow I don't have too many pictures from this part of the night, but I know this part of the event has been well document in other trip reports! ![]() ![]() Can't believe I didn't get any group shots at the Bucket that night. Oh well. I got a few good pictures anyway. It’s a great, fun evening, but we’re starting to run out of gas. We go back to the condo to collect our kids, who hung with Veejay’s kids while we went to the Beer Bucket. Veejay and Diamente should be very proud. Their children are wonderful, so warm and welcoming, interesting and friendly kids. Smart too! ![]() Anyway, around midnight, we Craigs pile into a taxi for the ride back to the Barcelo. What a fun night!

Wow! Thank you! That's very nice of you. I'm enjoying writing the report. It's really fun to go back and look at the pictures and relive parts of the trip. The next section will be about our shopping trip into Playa, and the hunt for the perfect mojito...mmm! |
