Waiting for the boat to take us to the Island-Mackinac Bridge in the background-this bridge connects the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan The Mackinac Bridge Going under the bridge in our boat on the way to the Lighthouse Elizabeth and Victoria These are the boats we took to get to the Island. On the right is the boat we took from the Mackinac City Marina. This boat had to anchor a couple of hundred yards away from shore at the Island because it is too shallow for a larger boat. We took several trips on the Zodiac to get ourselves and all of our gear on the Island. |

This is the restroom we used for 5 days. It consisted of a big hole in the ground-dug out by the boy scouts. The roll of toilet paper had to be covered by a coffee can to keep the spiders out of it. There was no electricity or running water. We had to pump water from a well to use for showers, washing dishes, cooking, etc...
This is our shower area. We had to fill plastic containers with water, let them heat in the sun, and then let the water trickle over us to get somewhat clean. Lets just say, we couldn't wait to get REAL showers at home. There is something to be said for good water pressure. Here is our plasma TV. It had 2 channels-channel 2 was the nature channel and channel 4 was the Mackinac Bridge channel. Here are the girls carving walking sticks with an old fashioned tool that scrapes the bark off the wood. (Forgot the name of it) |
