We also went to Costa Rica last March. We landed in Liberia and stayed the night then rented a small SUV and travelled to La Fortuna and stayed at the base of the Volcano very cool. Next we traveled to Tamarindo and stayed at a small hotel Bula Bula. Perfect vacation and highley recommend Costa Rica..
More photos of our trip here......Enjoy we sure did.. Again Tamarindo pictures from travel photos on webshots |

Those pictures are beautiful! Gorgeous sunset. We have always wanted to go to Costa Rica too. The heat and humidity is fairly high though, right?
It looks like there are direct flights to Costa Rica from Edmonton on Saturdays in November too, Tbone. ![]() Air Canada Vacations, flying into Liberia. Downside is, it's not direct....it's through Toronto (how ridiculous! ). Which adds a lot of hours to the flight, of course. Other than that, the prices are pretty good.

Just wanted to say a belated thanks to everyone's very helpful feedback to this thread.
Rissask, especially you. You obviously put a lot of thought and effort into this and we really appreciate it. As a result of all this, we're now thinking the PV area. Maybe Sayolitos - looks really cool. Mucho Gracias |

I love talking about travel, it was my pleasure. ![]() If you do decide on Sayulita, the best option (which I think I may have said already) is to get air only and rent a casita/villa through VRBO.com, as there aren't too many hotels in the town, but plenty of villas. After leaving the airport you just walk across the street (using the skywalk) and grab a cab or the bus north to Sayulita. We shared a cab with another man headed there for 300 pesos and took the bus back to the airport when we left for 70 pesos. The bus stop in town is by the bridge and ball diamonds. There is one higher end hotel called Villas Amor though. Very nice. And an oceanfront villa is $110 a night. There is also some other ideas for lodging and good info on THIS site too. It really is a great value area and in November everything will be lush and green. ![]()

you might also try la jolla de mismaloya. its a very nice hotel, top three on the travel channel, and gateway to many things south of vallarta. it's close to tomatlan which is a nice, small community and also the place where you can catch a boat to coastal towns only accesible by boat such as yelapa.

Here's an update to my original post back in September.
So, we're all set and are leaving this Saturday, Nov. 15th - Edmonton to the PV airport. Will be staying for a week at the Riu Vallarta, about 15 min. north. It's a 5 star AI on Flamingo Beach, fairly new and seems to have good reviews. We're pretty excited having never been to this area before. We're not really AI kind of folk but, it makes sense as this is only a week to a totally new part of MX for us and we really want to keep it simple and have a good base to scout around. I'll try to take lots of pix and then try to post a sorta trip report when we get back. Cheers, Thomas |
