Aug20-sept3 Trip report. Playa-down the coast to-xpujil
So this forum really helped us make this trip, and we feel the need to give back.
ill be doing it in sections and there will be tons and tons of pics!!! Our trip was from aug20-sept3 2008 and we went from playa, tulum, Majahual (Mahahual), xcalak, laguna bacalar, xpujil, Chetumal, Akumal, and everything in between. first things first the plane ride. oops still need to load my pics

Ok....so.... the plane ride
We got tickets for 345 round trip sf to cun. but we hade a few layovers. fist was guadalajara then to mexico city, then cancun.  but it was cool flying into the biggst city in the world so i had no complaints i never knew they had snow capped mountans in mexico city! we got into cancun at 12noon.

So we got to Cancun and took the bus to Playa Del Carmen. It was surprisingly easy and would take it again in a heartbeat. We didn't have any reservations at this point. We had tried to e-mail a hotel named the Mimi Del Mar but they didn't end up getting back to us in time. All we really knew was we wanted to meet our friend jules (who happened to be in Playa at the same time) and we wanted to rent a car. Thankfully I knew where the Mimi Del Mar was, and they had a room available for us. So we settled in our hotel room and went searching for drinks
We went to a bar right next to our hotel room called Bad Boys where we were planning on meeting Jules. Although it wasn't very busy, it was a cool place. The owner (who we just called the Captain) was extremely hospitable and gave some priceless advice. I completely recommend the Mimi Del Mar hotel!!! Very friendly people and reasonable prices (100$) for a nice room.This is my girlfriend Alicia in front of the Mimi Del Mar. .  and the boats in front of the hotel  down the street  Down the beach in front of the hotel.  So that night we had to go to the cave bar..Atlux???? I forget how to spell it... but it was very cool. i suggest just geting a drink and wander around the cave. I heard the food is not that good and is extremely expensive.    The cave walls  Me in front of the waterfall in the cave  Me(Brad) and alicia in front of the watefall and then the bar.   It was well worth the cost of the drink, because we were there only for a half hour or so. thats how long it took us to explore the cave then we were done with the bar. BUT FUN FUN FUN. Went back into town to get some food, i forget the name of the place(next to hogen daz) to get the pastor that the capt. from bad boys recomended. it was soooooooo good  love at first taste!!!!!! heres the pics from the resturaunt.   Then we partied with our friend who was also in playa and went to bed. we were to drunk to take pics. and the day was.....hectic. Sorry for not having that much detail on the first day. we were tired and there was so much to take in. and then we got drunk.  NEXT...DAY 2...... the car and going to tulum!!!! Day 2.......
We wake up in a cold room..feels like home. i look over at alicia and can tell shes not feeling to bright, oh...what happend???? bad boys, Nu....tequela!!! Finely get up, trying not to wake up alicia more than she is,and go out on the patio and it hits me. i dont know if it was coler of the water, the heat or the tequela. but It really hit me "HOLY S#@*, IM ON VACATION" Run inside all exited to get farther south, and try to get alicia out of bed. Nope.. about 11am we get breakfest and start looking for a car. i was reading alot about all the car companies and we decided to go with hertz. about 500US for 13 days. We got a really nice car. doge somthing. It was easy and we took our pics of the car and we were off to tulum!!!!!  our car  Oh dont have any pics of the drive  We went snorkeling at akmul on the way down because i thought it was a good place to get lunch and more beer. And of course, take a dip  There is a good little place to eat next to the store, right before you go through the main entrance thing. Its good because you can get your beer right next door. We went snorkeling(we brought all our own gear)right off the beach. we saw big schools of fish with baracuda in the middle. we saw squid and turtles. It was amazing. Pics when i get the film done. Back on the road and get to tulum. turn left at the light, down the road. Right at the police stand(towards the ruins) and start asking prices. We decided on yet another place we forget the name for. Good thing it was one of the hottest cabanas and we hated it. It was 500 pesos. Not worth knowing the name. It does look good on film though cabana  And the view from our cabana
