D.C.-Mostly Photos
A couple of weeks ago, I had a conference in DC, and Julie came up with me. We had a great time together.
Here are some photos: My conference was in the Gaylord (huh-huh, he said gay-lord...) National Harbor Hotel. Gaylord hangs their hat on building the largest hotel they can (3000+ rooms) and putting the whole thing under a dome of glass. There is one in Dallas and one in Nashville, too. It was really nice, in a Disneyland kind of way. Here are two views from our balcony. Keep in mind, this is all under glass. ![]() ![]() We took in the sights. Here's the lovely Julie in a cab. ![]() We went to the National Archives. ![]() It was very moving to see some of the original documents that got the beautiful country of my birth rolling. ![]() Later in the afternoon, we wandered up on a lovely fountain and pool where a jazz band was playing and draft beers and wine were served. It was a gorgeous afternoon and the pool was ringed with wonderful folks enjoying each other, the music, the weather, and I suspect, for the most part, being Americans. ![]() ![]() ![]() After dinner at Rasika, a top-notch Indian restaurant a few blocks off the Mall, we strolled around. The light was beautiful. ![]() ![]() The next day, we checked out a couple museums, monuments and memorials. ![]() ![]() We started at the Hirschhorn Art Museum. ![]() This eighty-foot sculpture was amazing. It was designed in such a way that the thin cables provided internal support; it was not connected to anything. ![]() We had a snack...this little guy joined us for an Oreo. He needed a napkin when he was done. I thought it was gross. ![]() Julie liked the Washington monument so much that she got this hat ![]() and this miniature ![]() Julie is so sentimental, that she said that every time she sees the Washington Monument, she thinks of me. ![]() We spent quite a while at the Vietnam War Memorial. It is one of the most moving pieces of art I have ever seen. The design is incredible in both its simplicity and magnitude. ![]() I had never seen the Korean War Memorial, and I was very glad to have the opportunity. ![]() I have always been a fan of the Lincoln Memorial. ![]() We wrapped things up at the African Art Museum. This piece was my favorite. ![]() In every way, it was a glorious time. Julie and I were in love, on a sunny weekend, in our beautiful capital.
