![]() I remember that bridge. We always crossed it on our way to the summer holidays in Sardinia... (when I was still driving with my parents and not flying over - BACK when I was young ![]() ![]() ).And yes, food in Switzerland IS expensive. I know that. *sigh* |

Ok, where was I????? Oh yeah, still in Lugano. After San Salvatore Kelley and I walked back thru town on our way to Monte Bre. We decided to grab something to eat.
Our walk....... ![]() ![]() Ordering and food! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After the meal we continue the walk to catch the funicolare to go up to Monte Bre. ![]() ![]() The tracks of the funicolare.... ![]() Kelley sitting.....waiting...... ![]() Once we reached the top the views were stunning!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We stayed up there for maybe an hour and a half or so. Not much to do really...unless you are into hiking, which Kelley and I are not!

Wow, your pictures are beautiful. Twenty years ago my sister and I went to Switzerland and viewing your pictures is bringing back such great memories. Thanks for posting them. I can't wait to read and see more.

I just got around to reading this. What a great report Linda! Mel and i were in Lauterbrunnen, and Wengen about 12 years ago. We also took that tram up to the town of Gimmelwald, where nobody was there!
We stayed in a hostel right near where that waterfall was in Lauterbrunnen. Thanks for the great memories

Ok...I will!
![]() Let me see if I can remember?! After 2 days in Lugano we took the train to Lucerne and spent 2 nights there. Again, another beautiful Swiss city!![]() ![]() Need to note that last summer ALL of my pictures were lost from my computer, ALL of them! I only had a few saved in Facebook.A full day was spent in Lucerne going up to Mt. Pilatus. Since we had a full transportation pass for the whole country we were able to take the city bus to the starting off point to go up the mountain. ![]() This is a map of the mountain. We started (on the right side) riding on a small gondola ski lift, then took a huge (and scary) ride on a cable car. ![]() ![]() ![]() We spent a few hours walking around the top of the mountain then headed back down on the other side of the mountain (on the left side of the map) using the cog railway. The steepest in the world! ![]() Once at the bottom of the mountain we then took a boat on Lake Lucerne back to our starting point! Back at our hotel we would see little blips on CNN International news about a hurricane getting ready to hit the US. It was Hurricane Ike and it was hitting Houston, where we both live! Kelly called her husband back home and he was getting ready to get on a flight to London to eventually meet up with Kelly in Ireland. He wanted to get out ASAP before they closed the Houston airport! Wait!! He is my dogs emergency contact!![]() So I call my kennel and they told me they are going to hunker down and to wish them luck! Well there wasn't much we could do as we were so far from home. I worried about my dogs, I worried about my house....sigh.....it was what it was! Note-the hurricane had not even formed when we left for our trip 6 days earlier! Our last night we had dinner, I believe it was fondue! We are in Switzerland after all! ![]() Next moring we take the train to Zurich where Kelly was to fly to Ireland and I was to fly to Newark then on to Houston...maybe..... ![]() I check in for my flight in Zurich and they ask where my final destination is...umm, Houston? No no, Houston is closed, they have a hurricane coming! Ok, book me on a flight to Chicago, I can go home and visit family until the hurricane passes and the airport reopens. Nice flight from Zurich to Newark, got BusinessFirst on Continental! The ONLY way to go! ![]() Once in Newark I call my Mom to tell her I am coming home, she says ok and makes it a quick call that's weird, she usually likes to chat! I call one of my sisters and she tell me my brother Tom will pick me up from the airport. That's weird too as he was in Dallas?![]() I get to Chicago, get to my Mom's house only to find that my Grandmother is hours from passing away! Her last hours she was (I believe) at peace with friends and family surrounding her.....I watched her take her last breath while the TV in the background was showing the first pictures of Hurricane Ike devestation in the Houston area on Saturday afternoon......Things happen for a reason.....I was MEANT to be home then..... Well, that's it! Kind of a sad ending to a wonderful trip! Switzerland is a place I would LOVE to go back to someday but first I must see other parts of the world!
