Alltournatives Tour - Coba/Pac Chen
Hello Everyone,
I have read many postings regarding the Coba-Pac Chen Alltournatives Tour and would love to do this tour when we come to the PDC area in Jan. 2004. Now, I have one concern...should I worry about the safety of the lovely meal that the locals prepare for the tour participants, or should I consider myself to be "brainwashed" by the typical "don't eat anywhere other than at your resort" mentality. Unfortunately, I have been told this many times...however, I think it comes down to just plain common sense! Otherwise, how else can one travel and explore without leaving their "resort". Any advice would be welcome. Hopefully, I asked this question in a tactful way and did not insult Alltournatives!! Thanks kindly, Mexicanmystified |

Common sense is good. The food the Mayan ladies on the Coba/Pac Chen tour prepares is just delicous. Don't listen to people's fears and instead ask yourself what your common sense says is the healthier meal - food that comes freshly cooked directly from the kitchen (or in this case the fireplace) or food that's been sitting out for hours in tropical heat on a resort buffet. Just go out there and see the world - that's what traveling is all about!

I had read only good things about this tour before going to Playa last month so I booked online for 12 people a month before our trip. I called a week before the trip to confirm and even called the night before to confirm. Let's just say I confirmed the hell of the trip. I just wanted to make sure my friends had a great time. When they came to pick us up they booked us for the Jungle tour instead of Coba Pach Chen even though I had a printed confirmation stating Coba Pach Chen from my computer. They tried to talk us into to going on the jungle tour which we refused. It would of been like settling for a donut from Walmart when you really wanted a Krispy Creme. Needless to say we ended up going to Cozumel and having a wonderful time! Hate to complain but maybe this will help them work out whatever they have going wrong in their reservation dept.
Side Note- Thanks Anna for setting up our trip on the Fat Cat Catamaran. It was the highlight of our trip. KK |

Hi!
I did the Coba tour in August and it was awesome! I highly recommend it. It was a lot of fun and the food was delicious. One thing about Alltournative though - they could stand to improve on their customer service. So, just my two cents in case it comes up: Print out the advertised internet price - they charged me more than the stated online price. Also, if you buy the Playa card (also highly recommended) make sure you get it back. When I used it to get our free shirts, the office staff told me that I could not have it back because once I used it they were supposed to keep it. Hopefully you won't run into any problems but even if you do, the trip is well worth any hassle. Have a great time! |
