That's our plan for our month next year.......can't afford to sit at the beach clubs every day.

You'll see plenty of "losers" just laying on the beach.

Buy a cheap twin size flat bed sheet and bring that to establish your "space" on the beach (fits 2 people fine when layed out flat). That leaves your towels (somewhat) sand-free (to be used as pillows perhaps) and sort of cozies up your beach area. Sheets dry quickly and travel light and easy too.

Thanks, Heather good advice. We too are planning for this year 1 month and after retirement 2 to 3 months. Those beach club cost could get pricey. I will be heading to Sam's club for chair and umbrella!

We too will be losers! LOL

When we go the smaller beach bars/beach clubs where the chair charge is at the discretion of the staff we always order something right away. This way they know your going to spend some money. Since they work mostly on tips they would rather have the chairs making them money.

I believe El Pirata's are free, but they don't have a lot of them.

What is fun about sitting on the beach instead of a beach club is being around Mayan and/or local families. I like watching families out on a weekend outing. Everyone including Grandma and Grandpa come along for a beach day. A little bit of the real Mexico there.

Corey and I are big fans of packing a cooler and pulling up a nice piece of beach, always have been. Whenever we do it though, there's one little thing that nags at me:

What do I do if I need a bathroom?

The folks at Bad Boys know us so we use their bathroom....such as it is.

AVOID MAMITAS!!! i hate this beach club! its always over crowded and therefore the service is terrible. you have to pay for the chairs - like $2 i think - and the last time i was there (when friends were in town and wanted to go to the famoso mamitas) i heard that in order to get one of the beds - which i recall used to be like $20 - now you have to buy a bottle! which means upwards of $60, probably more. don't know if this is true, but that day the beds were empty, and the times i had been there before, they were usually full. also they don't focus on service since they're well known, they know people will be there, plus i think they're a bit understaffed as well.

i agree totally with heather - get a cooler, some chairs, and an umbrella. for the amount you spend on that which would last your entire trip - you would easily spend in 2 days at mamitas. plus you can head up to the emptier part of the beach and not be surrounded on all sides . . . that's what i call enjoying the beach!!

I think that's way more fun than a beach club, too!

Th3Skipper, I don't think you'd tend to get a lot of peace and quiet at a beach club.
