Panama . . . Panamah-ah . . .

so this past september i spent the month in potrerillos arriba, panama. its located about an hour south of costa rica, near the towns of david and boquete. its where my parents live and its absolutely beautiful. its in the cloud forest, so it rains everyday, but this trip it seemed to be harder than previous trips, but still refreshing. my parents don't even have a/c! there's no need, how nice . . .

so i arrived in panama city and went to catch the bus to david (cost about $15 + 5 cents to go through a little gate to go outside to the bus . . .)
flying into panama city

on the bus to david, there's usually 2 movies
on the 8 hr journey.

and there's a bus station along the way
where they stop for about 30 mins. there's
a cafe, with some not too bad empanadas.
and one thing i love about panama is that
ginger ale is available everywhere! mmm!

during the bus ride

not sure what they were checking for - they
didn't stop the bus. they have come aboard
on one of my trips before, checking ids, but interestingly enough
they didn't ask me for anything . . . just
passed by.

here are some fotos of my parent's house. i must
admit - i didn't do very much on this trip. we usually
go to some small town or do a tour or something . . .
but this time we took it easy - and i got addicted to
rock band on xbox, so . . .

in my parent's backyard

doo, doo, doo lookin' out my back door . . .
my room has a seperate entrance so its
kinda like its own apt - w/out a kitchen.

a rainy day - pretty much everyday i was there!
but how refreshing!

view from the balcony of volcan baru.

. . . more later!

Uh!
Oh yeah!
Ah-huh!

Jump back, what's that sound?
Here she comes, foot tappin' down now
Hot shoe, burnin' down the avenue
Model citizen, zero discipline

Don't ya know she's coming home with me
You'll lose her in that turn
I'll get her!

Panama, Panama
Panama, Panama

Ain't nothin' like it, it's a shiny machine
Got the feel for the wheel, keep the movin' parts clean
Hot shoe, burnin' down the avenue
Got an on-ramp comin' through my bedroom

Don't you know she's coming home with me
You'll lose her in that turn
I'll get her
Uh-oh!

Panama, Panama
Wow!
Panama, Panama
oh-oh-oh-oh
Woo!

[Guitar Solo]

Yeah, we're runnin' a little bit hot tonight
I can barely see the road from the heat comin' off
You know what I'm sayin'
Ahh, I reach down between my legs n' ease the seat back

She's runnin', I'm flyin'
Right behind in the rearview mirror now
Got the fearin', power steerin'
Pistons poppin', ain't no stoppin' now

Panama, Panama
Panama, Panama
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Panama, Panama
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Panama

Keep it coming

the day before i left i went to Paradise Garden - an animal rescue and rehabilitation center. they hope to rescue, rehabilitate, then if possible release animals into the wild. they mainly have birds, some monkeys, a couple of boxers - their pets!, a baby sloth, and some nocturnal animals that i couldn't see since they were sleeping. they ask for a donation of $5, but i gave them some extra, kinda reminded me of the peanut pet shelter, but with much different animals!

baby sloth - its fur was really soft - so cute.
it was saved from an indian couple that - most
likely ate the parents. it sleeps on a heating
pad to simulate the mother.

a toucan

a parrot

another parrot

capuchin monkey - there were
2 girls and a boy. they were
hoping they would mate. go
monkeys, go monkeys!

another monkey, they had these little
gremlin-ie faces, but they were friendly.

this is an ocelot tail. he was
sleeping up in a tree, so i
couldn't get a goodfoto.
enjoy his tail . . .

they also have all sorts of cool
little sculptures and knick knacks
all around the gardens.

this is boquete, view from el mirador

Great report, Deborah... glad that you're posting it. It looks like a beautiful country, even though you had to see it through the rain. Gotta love the monkey pics!

the ones which could be released are, but some are too domesticated, or the habitat isn't quite right.

a few waterfalls between the city of david and my parent's house.

this one has a picnic area and you often see people
swimming here. i put my feet in and it was freezing.

this one is fenced off. and there wasn't a
sitting area.

there is a private house, called mi
jardin es su jardin, that has made
its amazingly gorgeous gardens public.
its free and sooo beautiful. i always make
a trip there.
