October 2003 National Geographic

I was at a little dinner party on Thursday at my friend Matt's house. He had a copy of the current National Geographic on the table so I had a look. There was an article about underwater Mayan sites listed on the cover. Inside I found shots of several friends of mine, including my dinner host, Matt. (in typical Matt fashion, he hadn't mentioned the magazine, the article or his presence...) Others may recognize Pichecuas (Luis) from Sealife also, descending a well shaft with a big grin.

If you have a chance, pick up a copy.

James,

I haven't seen a hard copy of the actual article yet, however, the story is also featured on the the National Geographic web site. They've got some cool photos, a map, and multimedia clips of an interview with one of the researchers. If you're interested you can check it out here.

Mayas

I searched all over SFO and all I could only find Zebras (the September edition). Perhaps the October edition will have made it to California by the time I get back to CA. Thanks for the link Denise, that was a nice preview.

Cenote diving

The “I see dead people” edition of National Geographic did finally make it to California. The article mentioned in this thread is superb as are the photographs (especially that fold out). It is a little more morbid that I had expected. Hence my re-title. A subsequent expedition would make a great TV documentary.

If you are interested in diving and/or Mayan history get the Oct 2003 edition of National Geographic while they last.
