Well I'm surprised a bit at the reaction, I must say.

Not to cross any inappropriate lines, here, but if everybody's saying 1,000 USD (or a little more, as it was later modified) for rent of a 2-room place on the beach in PDC for those dates, a place where the other primary requirement is really only that it have AC... Well then I supposed we should raise our rates.

I've been searching for a couple of months now . I have even been looking outside of PDC for that perfect beachfront location. I have found a couple of things, but not exactly what we want. Am I being unrealistic to want a 2 bedroom on the beach for $1000? The dates we are coming are April 25-May 2. It doesn't matter if it's a villa, cabana, condo, 2x4 box, or a hotel, as long as it has seperate bedrooms w/ AC, and on the beach! This will be our 1st trip to PDC. We have planned to come a couple of different times before, but plans always fell through. This time is definate. There will also be another couple coming with us. I have them so siked about this trip, with everything I have learned from this site.

Ok, Steve, I did miss the hotel part. I don't know hotel rates, so have at it.

Ha ga_pechs, Hotel Playa Maya will apparently fit your budget.

I personally never had much interest in staying out of Playa....but if I did I would use Ado bus or Collectivo.......it is not necessary to use cabs.
Especially not from the Cancun airport.

And staying a block or two away from the "beach" is ALOT more reasonable.......especially closer to 30th ave.

I know Heather can find you a nice condo............convince your friends that walking 10 minutes to the beach each morning is good for their health.......and their wallet.

Again......just my dos pesos!

Well it's a stretch, a bit, but the more you look at the comments, not that much of a stretch. The thing that got me is that I would think you'd find places on the beach cheaper than Playa Maya, and therefore even more clearly within the budget. And that seemed in stark contrast with a number of people saying it was out of the question, that's all.

But I do think that everyone who was commenting did miss the "hotel" part, too. I think everyone else was talking about beachfront condos, too.

So no need to get all "got" by the comments. All Riviera Resort is probably another beachfront spot where 1,000 usd per week might be possible. Maybe others, but again, I have no idea about hotel rates.

Thanks for the suggestions to everyone! I've done ALOT of research on many places. Playa Maya IS beautiful and I would love to stay there, but a tad out of our range. I'm going to check on a couple other suggestions made here also. Most of the hotels would require us to rent 2 rooms, in order for privacy, therefore that would definately go over our $1000 buget.
I guess maybe I should have asked about those little "unknown & unadvertized" places that are the cream of the crop. Seeing that I've never been there, I'm only assuming that there are small quaint hotels, villas, cabanas, & condos that aren't talked about much, maybe not have a web link, or whatever the case may be, that someone could point me too. Believe me, I've done nothing but search the web about Playa for a year now........was hoping that I missed a few places!

Off the beach, there may be some... ON the beach, I don't think there's any place that everyone doesn't know about. (Although Paamul does have beachfront cabanas for - I think - about $70/night. If you can handle totally tranquil...)

Not bent out of shape, just struck me funny, so I pointed that out.

Yes, I would imagine All Riviera would be just one of many, in terms of general price range, though I guess it might depend on which places had 2-room suites that a party of 4 could share (which is the only way I got to the comments re PM in the first place).

Anyway, just commenting!

Heather can probably find you a 2 Bedroom condo.........we stayed at 2 bedroom condos last few years. All the ones we stayed at were only 2-3 year old units.Just be prepared to walk to the beach..........the ones we stayed at were close to 30th ave. by the Mega superstore and Walmart. Also there a few awesome restuarants in that same area.

Playa is the only place I have been on vacation where "one or two blocks from the beach" is really no big deal. You could probably find plenty within your budget that are a block or two from the water. I would rather stay off the beach in PDC by one or two blocks than stay outside of town and have to taxi or drive in.

I have been renting through vrbo for years and have never had a problem. I do, however, research and talk to the owners or property managers extensively before renting. Ask lots of questions and get references if you feel they are needed!

And Riss, sorry to hear about your mother having surgery. Hope she is doing well and that you don't have a problem finding a travel partner if she can't make it...

Thanks! We went to see her yesterday and she is doing MUCH better...although she still is saying she is not sure whether she will be okay to come, as she needs to get her gall bladder out as soon as she recovers from this surgery- and they are going to schedule it for around the time we are leaving, so ???? I guess we just have to wait and see!

I am looking for a couple other women to come but while I have had tons of interest, no one yet who can commit... most of my friends are either teachers and can't go at that time, or have little kids, or not enough vacation time, or none left....sheesh!

Oh, I do hope your Mom is better before you go, even if she can't make the trip it would be awful to worry about her the whole time you were away.

My best wishes are with you and your mom, Rissask.
