This is the story.

It says he went missing on Oct. 25 and 'friends flocked to the area' to help and to be with Robyn...this story says she stayed in the area to search.

The stories don't match up, but I don't buy that she came home the next day, the Edmonton papers would have got their info from friends and family here, so ?? Possibly a language barrier problem.

So he disappeared on Oct. 10 and this past weekend is when she abandoned the hotel with his friend? Thats a long time to be missing, I sure hope he's alive and well somewhere.

No, apparently he went missing on Saturday October 25th at night. One of the articles is from Saturday Nov 1st and says she had left Mexico the night before. At least that is what I understood.

Hello,
The missing man is my brother in law, Mark. He is still missing somewhere in Mexico, we have not had any news about his whereabouts. We are all hoping for the best in this situation.
As it is now, Robyn and their children are doing their best to handle everything that has happened. Thank you all for you condolences and prayers. If we receive any news well keep you posted.

What both articles basically say is this: the wife left the hotel together with the best friend of her husband at two in the morning without her belongings. Those were picked up later by a Canadian lawyer who also took care of the check out. He will take those belongings back to Canada.
The man has not been found although massive searches have been conducted.
It seems the story the woman gave the police sounded inconsistent to them- and they are also pointing out that it seems odd that she only notified authorities seven hours after he supposedly dissapeared.
Hence in those articles the conclusion is in the air that his disappearance may have been staged and there is another tragedy behind this, with his wife being the number one suspect. Her leaving the country like this didn't help to deflect that, obviously.
They had no chance of keeping her hotelbound as there is no law to support that.

Although this form of departure is unfortunate I think one has to keep his wifes situation in mind- in a situation like this you will probably just want to go home to friends and family at one point, and maybe she was scared they wouldn't let her leave, thus the strange form of departure.

That's my feeling, unfortunately in many foreign countries, you are considered guilty until proven innocent & even then that's difficult. She probably got out in case they decided to jail her, which is entirely possible. Having someone disappear is not good for tourism & authorities often will try & blame the people with those who disappear as to deflect that something like that may happen in their country, unfortunately both ways happen. I don't know what happened but I hope it all turns out for the best.

With all do respect, because there are family members posting/reading this thread, perhaps any speculation about who may or not be involved is not appropriate at this time? Maybe just support for the family?

I'm quite sure

his wife left Mexico because of the Napolean laws: guilty until proven innocent. If I had children at home my first thought would be to get out, get home.

There is no way you want to spend any time in a Mexican jail; not my personal experience, but from a friend who spent a night in jail on Cozumel for a traffic accident. Not a pleasant experience, and he was lucky to have several friends on the island that facilitated his release plus brought food and drinks to the jail.

If some of us are honest; we've drank too much had "words" and stomped off into the sunset.

Positive vibes and prayers for the family.

This is really sad. I've been shopping at Mark's store for a few years now, he knows me by name to walk in the door and we've always had friendly banter. In fact, I was in his store just 4 days before he went missing, and we were talking about some new stuff he had in stock and I was laughing because I called some friends and was buying stuff for them (I joked I was bringing him all this extra business).

Now he's missing and it's not looking very good This is a terrible shame, he seems to be a very nice guy.

I don't think anyone was speculating about anything, just trying to figure out why the papers' stories don't match up.

I agree with Dijo's take on it -and if I were her I would have done the same thing, likely.

I hope the family and friends of Mark get some kind of closure to the situation soon, hopefully positive.
