I hope you are making a happier face soon. Sometimes, at that age, passing a little gas helps

Obama to have say in bailout staff picks

There may be just one president at a time, but when it comes to the $700 billion bailout package, Barack Obama’s team is getting a toe in the door.

The Bush Treasury Department says that as it fills senior staff positions in the $700 billion bailout effort on a permanent basis, it will consult with the president-elect’s key economic advisers before he takes office on Jan. 20.

I think he would do a fine job there.

His wife is African, you know, and I think he can see the ocean from his house, maybe.

I think this would be a good appointment

Quote:
President-elect Barack Obama is strongly considering Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Environmental Protection Agency, a Cabinet post, Democratic officials told Politico.

he selection of Kennedy would be a shrewd early move for the new presidential team. Obama advisers said the nomination would please both Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).

It also would raise the profile of the EPA, which would help endear Obama to liberals who may be disappointed on other issues important to the Democratic left because of budget restrictions.

The EPA enforces clean air and clear water laws. Kennedy, an environmental lawyer and son of the late senator and attorney general Robert F. Kennedy, has long championed a cleaner water supply for New York City.

As an officer and attorney for the environmental watch group Riverkeeper, Kennedy has taken on governments and companies for polluting the Hudson River and Long Island Sound.

Kennedy, a falconer and white-water rafter, also worked as an assistant district attorney in New York City.

Kennedy gained Washington experience by fighting anti-environmental legislation in Congress in 1995 and 1996, when Newt Gingrich took over as House speaker.

The officials were unsure when Obama will make the selection. His transition planners have focused first on top West Wing staff and his economic and national security teams, all of which are scheduled to be announced early in the 76-day transition period. President-elect Bill Clinton was widely criticized for moving too slowly to appoint key staff and Cabinet secretaries during his presidential transition.

Well as far as I can see, you still have the chance to reply to my reply to your interesting post over there from earlier in the day. Reports of that thread's demise may have been exaggerated, I'm not sure...

There is a good, long article in the Washington Post on the Obama transition team, speculation about some names for some cabinet posts and some information about what the Bush admin is doing. Here is a snippet from that article

Quote:
The Bush foreign policy team also moved quickly to try to ensure Obama a smooth transition. In a letter to CIA employees, Director Michael V. Hayden wrote that the agency has "two sets of consumers" -- the Bush administration and Obama.

"Through expanded access, greater than what he had in his briefings as a candidate or as a Senator, he will see the full range of capabilities we deploy for the United States," Hayden wrote to his staff. Those briefings will begin today when Obama receives a briefing from Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell.

McConnell said the president-elect's advisers probably will set up a temporary office at the DNI's headquarters. "We are prepared to brief the team on the [intelligence community's] capabilities as well as on significant intelligence issues," he said in a note sent late Tuesday to employees.
