McConnell Statement on Working with President-elect Obama
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement on Wednesday on working with President-elect Obama and his administration: “I congratulate President-elect Obama and will work with him on behalf of the American people. The Republican leadership stands ready to hear his ideas for implementing his campaign promises of cutting taxes, increasing energy security, reducing spending and easing the burden of an immense and growing national debt. On these, and other bipartisan issues, he will find cooperation in the Senate. We have an opportunity for significant accomplishments on behalf of the American people, and it is my hope and intent that we succeed in the years ahead. “I fully anticipate that President-elect Obama will select well-qualified nominees for the key, early cabinet secretary nominations. And if so, he can count on my support for timely consideration and assistance to ensure a smooth transition for our national, homeland and economic security posts. These times are too important not to move quickly together.” |

Mogley's current avatar pretty much sums up MY opnion of the presidential election results.
And there ya go.... my contribution (probably one and only) to this political thread. ![]() EDIT: Oh damn... Mogley just went and changed his avatar back to the smoking monkey. I was referring to the one he had (briefly) of the kitten choking/coughing up a furball. Courtesy of Mogley:

McCain's constant sidekick says something
Lieberman vows to work with President-elect Obama By ANDREW MIGA – 3 hours ago WASHINGTON (AP) — Sen. Joe Lieberman, the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee who alienated his party with his high-profile support of Republican John McCain, pledged on Wednesday to put partisan considerations aside and work with President-elect Barack Obama. During a prime-time address at the Republican National Convention, the Connecticut lawmaker had rapped Obama as an untested candidate beholden to Democratic interest groups. But a day after Tuesday's election, Lieberman, a fixture beside McCain on the campaign trail, congratulated Obama for his "historic and impressive victory. "Now that the election is over, it is time to put partisan considerations aside and come together as a nation to solve the difficult challenges we face and make our blessed land stronger and safer," Lieberman said in a written statement. "I pledge to work with President-elect Obama and his incoming administration in their efforts to reinvigorate our economy and keep our nation secure and free." |

Quote:
Obama announced the key members of his transition team Wednesday. The team will be co-chaired by John Podesta, President Bill Clinton's former chief of staff; Valerie Jarrett, a longtime Obama confidante; and Peter Rouse, Obama's chief of staff in the Senate. Obama also may have a press conference before week's end to announce top White House appointments. Reports say Obama would like to announce key nominations such as secretary of state and Treasury chief before the end of the month. Among the top contenders for Treasury secretary: Larry Summers, former Harvard president and deputy Treasury secretary. The thinking is that because he has already been through the confirmation process, his appointment would likely sail through. And some reports say Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) has been offered the White House chief of staff job. |
