I gotta get ready for work

Someone watch the Sarah's press conference, starting soon, and let us know what you think.

Has there ever been a defeated vice-presidential candidate who got this much attention post-election?

Then there's no truth to the rumour that she's going to be staying home to baby sit her anticipated new granddaughter, while her daughter goes to her job as a waitress at International House of Moose?

Don't believe the VLWC hype, KF.

MSNBC Retracts False Palin Story; Others Duped

I cant believe I ever doubted the MSM! What was I thinking!

So Palin DOESNT believe Africa is a country after all. You guys still want to keep throwing your hat into the rumor and "undocumented sources" ring or have after a few hard learned lessons (see Dan Rather) decided yet to actually have PROOF before you jump on some nonsensical story?

I don't know what the context of Couric's remarks was, or that I would even trust Larry King to characterize them accurately. (He's always struck me as a bit too easy and loose and "well you know what I mean" on that sort of thing.)

For example, did somebody ask Couric, after a discussion (possibly sympathetic to Palin) about those interviews and people now pointing fingers at Palin and so on, "Katie, you've certainly also struggled and found no small degree of success in a line of work traditionalljly dominated by men. What advice would you offer Palin in her current situation?"

That would all make her remarks look quite different as compared to if Couric just came up with those comments in a kind of sarcastic tone as part of unprompted discussion about Palin, or following criticism of Palin that Couric herself initiated.

I wasn't referring to MSNBC (don't know that anyone was, here), which is quite a different animal from Newsweek. Again I for one don't watch outlets like MSNBC or Fox or read sites like DailyKos or Drudge because of their obvious biases.

Just happened to be just now reading about this...
Quote:
The hoax was limited to the identity of the source in the story about Palin — not the Fox News story itself. While Palin has denied that she mistook Africa for a country, the veracity of that report was not put in question by the revelation that Eisenstadt is a phony.

I don't think it matters because she said them on the record. Is she a pundit or a news anchor? And it's precisely because Couric herself has struggled in a male dominated field that she should grant the same respect to Palin.

Imagine if someone outside of the world of journalism, say me, says to Couric at the time she took the anchor chair: "I think you should keep your head down, work really hard, and learn about reporting before contemplating taking on the real news."

Kind of condescending, isn't it?

It would matter to me before I could say that. I've heard many anchors make commentary, from Campbell Brown's upbraiding of the McCain campaign for sequestering Palin from the press to that guy on Fox lamenting the nature of Joe the Plumber's remarks on that whole "death of Israel" affair. I don't think it's so bad, actually, when compared to the forced, artificial neutrality even in relatively clear cases that we are more used to seeing. Nor do I think Couric as a woman is rightly under particular pressure to avoid commentary on Palin as a fellow woman.

So the context would be relevant to me.

Well, that has been known for awhile.

60% of the American voters did not think Sarah was unqualified because of one hoax. They thought so because they heard her speak, became familiar with her positions and qualifications and rejected her.

I understand Sarah supporters leaping on this as evidence of something. Last I saw, about 65% of Republicans thought pretty highly of Sarah. I really hope she is a major player in Republican national politics for a long time.

That would be sweet.

No, but you'd think Couric would have some understanding of Palin's position. Wasn't Couric accused of "tarting" up the evening news as surely as Palin was of "tarting" up the GOP ticket?

Eisenstadt's "work" had been quoted and debunked before. The Huffington Post said it had cited Eisenstadt in July on a story regarding the Hilton family and McCain.

Eisenstadt identifies himself on a blog as a senior fellow at the Harding Institute for Freedom and Democracy. Yet neither he nor the institute exist; each is part of a hoax dreamed up by a filmmaker named Eitan Gorlin and his partner, Dan Mirvish, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

And in July, Jonathan Stein of Mother Jones magazine blogged an item about Eisenstadt speaking on Iraqi television about a casino in Baghdad's "Green Zone."

Stein later realized he'd been had.
