To be honest, Pelosi can't distinguish what Pelosi was talking about!

Thanks — I enjoyed that!

Although at the same time, it makes me nervous that folks running such a system might be put in charge of the country!

What Fox News host Steve Doocy claimed our President said:

Quote:
“Unlike some people, I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.”
What our President actually said:

Quote:
“Somebody gave me an education. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.”
from TPM:

Quote:
Doocy’s rendition made it easier to portray the remark as a jab against Mitt Romney while interviewing him — Romney portrayed it as an attack on his father’s success. The misquote was then picked up by the Washington Post and New York Post — both of which later ran corrections — as well as conservative blogs.
.....
It isn’t the first time Doocy has put words in Obama’s mouth. Last October he falsely reported the president was planning on apologizing to Japan for U.S. actions during World War II, only to later concede that what he said was false.

Seeking to appeal to young voters, President Obama sought to put himself in their shoes on Tuesday, telling a crowd of college students that he only paid off his student loans eight years ago.

In a fiery speech where he urged Congress to pass legislation to prevent federally subsidized student, Obama also continued a narrative where he set himself apart from presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney, telling the crowd that he and first lady Michelle Obama “didn't come from wealthy families.”

“I just want everybody here to understand. I didn’t just read about this,” Obama said to roaring applause from students at the University of North Carolina. “I didn’t just get some talking points about this. I didn’t just get a policy briefing on this.”

Obama, aiming for an empathetic tone, said he and the first lady are only who they are today because of scholarships and student loans.

“Michelle and I, we've been in your shoes,” Obama said. “We didn't come from wealthy families. So, when we graduated from college and law school we had a mountain of debt. When we married, we got poor together. We added up our assets and there were no assets.

“We only finished paying off our loans, check this out, I'm the president of the United States... we only finished paying off our student loans about 8 years ago,” the president continued. “That wasn't that long ago.”

Obama used the example of his own education to tout the need to keep student loan rates where they are and prevent them from doubling to 6.8 percent. Romney has called on Congress to pass the student loan extension, but other Republicans are opposed to the extension.

“Everybody will give lip service to this,” Obama said, adding that it requires “not just words but deeds.”

“We have to make college more affordable for young people,” he said. “That’s the bottom line.”

No surprise, looks like Romney will sweep tonight's primaries. Newt is toast and should slink out now.

It's almost time for Romney to shake the Etch-a-sketch and get ready for the general election. He's very close to the part where he can stop pretending to be a severe conservative.

I'm glad he will get the nomination; I think he was the strongest candidate. I think it will be a good contest. This will be an interesting study of contrasts as far as political instincts/styles are concerned. Romney should be himself. He doesn't do well wearing ill fitting clothes he thinks voters want him to wear. He's not an "everyguy," so why should he fake it? Wanting to have a brew with someone is a deeply flawed strategy to begin with. He should go with the deeply religious, slightly nerdy, business fix-it technocrat. That's who he is.

I agree. It looked very fake when Obama did it with the cop and the professor. I just wish we could vote for someone who truely cared about the USA. But we missed our chance in 2000 and 2008. The people are truely to blame.

That was Biden, the cop, and the professor (which sounds like the beginning of a good joke). I'm not talking about the so-called "beer summit," rather the notion that a candidate seeming like someone you'd want to have a beer with is a good/bad quality worthy of consideration by voters.

2000 and 2008? You don't think Bush or Obama "truly cared about the USA?" I do. I don't think anyone would run for president if they didn't truly care and love their country. I might not agree with all of their policies and decisions, but I'd be hard pressed to guess why either of them would want to be president if he didn't actually care about his country.

Well they might care about the USA, but not at the expense of thier own personal interest. And that is very clear to me.

Like what? The fat cat salary? Having the public ridicule their intelligence? Question their citizenship? Defame their wives? Have to hear about nutball death threats to their daughters? Having to hear other nutballs suggest they conspired and knew about the biggest terrorist attack on US soil? Or that they do not belong to the religion they claim as their faith?

By what "personal interest" (other than the slight megalomania which is practically a requirement) does someone desire the office of the presidency? Air Force One is an awesome perk. The rest of it seems well out of the bounds of "personal interest."
