Here’s an interesting side bar.

After the Japanese decimated our fleet in Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941,
They could have sent their troop ships and carriers directly to California to finish what they started.
The prediction from our Chief of Staff was we would not be able to stop a
Massive invasion until they reached the Mississippi River .
Remember, we had a 2 million man army and war ships…...
All fighting the Germans.

So, why did they not invade?

After the war, the remaining Japanese generals and admirals were asked that question.
Their answer…...
They know that almost every home had guns and the Americans knew how to use them..

The world's largest army.... America's hunters!
Too bad no one told the 9/11 terrorists about this story....even if it is bullshit.

Also, doesn't the Norquist pledge apply here? Aren't all taxes hikes bad?
I can't speak for every republican and never claimed to....but there are enough republicans who realize that while the tax holiday or whatever you want to call it might not exactly stimulate the economy, that money will find its way directly into the bloodstream, just as unemployment benefits would. It is tangible and immediate and not pie in the sky. And theoretically, is letting a tax break that was meant to be TEMPORARY from the get go expire the same as a tax increase? By the same token, if the economy improves will Congress' refusal to grant an unemployment benefits extension be the same as CUTTING their benefits? We're really into semantics with some of this stuff.

And you quizzed me before on why I think Obama is a class warrior and the republicans are not. My answer is the same now as it was then.

But be happy...I have flip flopped and am now in favor of sticking to those dirty millionaires...

Well, the Bush cuts had an expiration date too; yet, everyone talks about those expiring as a tax increase. Why does it become a semantics argument when we're talking about something that impacts the middle class?

Exactly.

P.S. It's a good thing conservatives don't have double standards!

I am on record as saying let them expire across the board...I believe you are too, so what's your question? I'm not the one who renewed them.

You and I aren't the ones making this decision. I'm talking about the rhetoric of those who are. I see class warfare on both sides, but no one seems to want to call it class warfare when it's the middle class getting the shaft. Oh, weren't they going to expire anyway? How is that an increase?

We had 2 million American soldiers fighting in Germany at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941? Thats news to me. We didn't enter the European front until a month later in 1942 and we certainly didn't ramp up to 2 million soldiers in that time.
