I don't buy the 1 in 10 crap, it's kinda like Kevin Bacon to me....... but yeah lets save the industry.... 192 million vouchers for free cars....... the manufacturers that can produce those vehicles in an efficient and profitable way get to survive, those that fail, fail....... not sure what we do w/ all those used car salesmen though

dude you cant outsource that!!!! And that was more 1988 not 92!!!

I can tell you though, thinking back, we as a group created this nightmare along with the factories and the banks, I mean every dealer I know and I mean the Dealer principal was so arrogant and ego driven that now I find it humorous that they are loosing their respected ass. I have a dealer here in Utah that just paid 9 months ago 24 million for a Toyota franchise in town with a population of 150k....He will not recoup that investment in his lifetime, not to mention he just built this monster, "look at me" dealership!

Hell Scott look at Chuck Nash's new store right there in SM.....its a big store for that area and these times!!!!!! Hope it last, he does have some deep pockets, but when does he say you know what, its not worth it anymore?????

Im not concerned about the Dealer himself as I am the 90-150 employees at each dealership....those people like me have families, mortgages etc...and its Christmas time...I know it is not just the Auto industry suffering, but it has affected me and all my peers....maybe we deserve it, maybe we asked for it, hell I called this 2 years ago....but still, its a scary situation..I am now putting together a consulting program for exit strategies for dealers.....wish me well!!!!!!!!

yeah, but if he scrapes by the next couple of years, he's set...... this will be the largest metroplex in the country soon and he's right in the middle of it...... and he's in the most desirable part of it

I haven't read this whole thread, but today this whole mess really got scary for me.

My job/company is directly related to all of this and we are in full out planning mode for the what if they all go under and some other scenarios.....

I don't know if they should be bailed out or not, I just know I hope they survive somehow.

that whole area from San Marcos to Kyle will be a sea of $120k-$240k homes in 10 years, the population density is already overwhelming Kyle so I bet he does make it thru ....... their landscape really sucks though

I read today that 1 out of every 30 dealers will shut down by the end of the year, in 2009 another 1000 will be gone, this is good for the market, the rest that survive will thrive, those that are attacking the market are still doing fine, not great but fine, this is a storm we must weather, I have been in it since 1988, 20 years, I have done good, great and not so good or great, I will survive as well, times are tough and many will fall out or go some other direction, as I may soon...20 years in the car biz and its all you know, I got paid very well for a very long time based on what I knew, I raised a family very comfy on that, those days were certainly feast or famine, and those days provided many a trips to Playa..those days are not gone, but temporarily postponed, the auto industry as a whole will survive, be it used cars or new green type cars, either way this country can not survive without vehicles to get people from point a to point b....when the banks start lending money again people will buy them, regardless...the problem right now is not that people dont want to buy cars, but they cant secure a loan for said car, now everyone of you most likely have more than one car in the driveway, and are probably not going to reduce that unless you cant afford to pay for them....the question is not if the big3 will be bailed out, but what the requirements are for doing so...am I worried? yes I am worried about the next 3 months, come spring, I will again make the big money because of my knowledge and skill level...so its a hurry up and waite game.....it may be all used cars for the next year or so, but thats okay by me, new used, abused, there is an ass for every seat!!!!!!!!
