What time is last ADO from Tulum to Playa?
Trying to figure the best way for 6 ladies to spend the day in Tulum without renting a car and having to have a designated driver? Was either thinking of taking the ADO to the Ruins then catching a cab to Paraiso or into town for some Pollo Bronco (then to the beach). After a day at the beach, we will have had a few drinks so what's the best option back home??
Any ideas from to how best to do all this transportation-wise? ![]()

You are going at a very nice time of the year so you don't have to worry about the heat. But if you want to beat the crowds go early. I would take the 8:00am ADO bus. That would get to the ruins around 9:00am or a bit earlier. The site is small so you can get around it. There are plenty of opportunities to take pictures since it is so beautiful there.
After visiting the ruins you have two options to get to the beach. You can either walk or take a taxi. To do the former, where you get off of the tram that takes you to the main entrance of the ruins, there is a small road that leads south. Take this road and it will get you to El Paraiso. It is about a 30 minute walk. Pollo Bronco most likely will not be open by the time you get done visiting the ruins. So you might wait until you are done at El Paraiso to go eat at PB. If you go later, you can visit the ruins, take a taxi to Pollo Bronco, and then take another taxi to get to the beach. To get back to PDC, the last bus leaves at 11:27pm. What I do is buy a round-trip ticket. Sometimes, especially on the weekends, the buses from Tulum to PdC get full fast. I go the night before I plan on going to Tulum and buy a roundtrip ticket. |

Thanks for your reply!
Does the bus from PDC go directly to the ruins? If we buy a roundtrip ticket, do we catch it from the ruins or from Tulum Pueblo on the return? I have been to the ruins before and am familiar with the walk from there to El Paraiso (stayed in Tulum for 5 days). It's long, but doable. Just not going to have the rental car this time. ANd with 6 chicas going (I'm the cruise director) I just wander how we will all fit into taxis. <<<<my 7 yo son wanted me to put that in, cuz he thinks i'm old .

You are welcome! On the return, you will catch the bus at the Tulum Pueblo bus station. You can get two taxis. Five of us went to Xpu-Ha and we took two taxis. We didn't want to worry about drinking and driving. |

I notice that you did not explain how we got back to Playa when our two taxis neglected to return to pick us up! ![]() ![]() ![]()

Oh God...
A year ago this past August, Sharon (Queencityfan), Nerak (Karen), Barb (Equinenut), Kathy (Kathy.Web) and myself decided to go to Akumal and Xpu-Ha for the day. We got to Akumal, snorkeled, and had lunch. Then we decided to go over to Xpu-Ha to this little beach club, the HRV we had visited the last time we were in the area. Well, we get into two taxis and these guys are hauling ass and they go past the turn off to the beach club. The thought that we had told them the Xpu-Ha Palace. When I told the taxi driver that he passed the place, they stop and instead of going to the next retorno or turnaround spot, they drive backwards. Sh*t, There they go like bats outta hell. I was in the taxi with Sharon and the other three wimmins are in the other taxi. It was kind of scary. Sharon and I were kind of quiet. ![]() We get to a beach club that is by the one where we wanted to be, and I asked the taxistas to come back for us at 6:00pm. We got to the beach club and there is no one there except one family; we had the place to ourselves. We commenced to getting dunk. They start closing when we decide to leave. Before we go, the manager asks us if we have a ride back and I told them that we were going to meet the taxis in the parking area. We go to the parking area and wait. The freaking taxis never showed up! So Nerak runs back to the HRV to tell them to wait for us. Lucky for us, they are still there or we would have had to taken a colectivo back to town. No big deal except for it was when people were getting off of work and no telling when we could get a ride. We wait on our ride because the manager, a waiter and the security guard are closing shop and talking to the night watchmen. The catch is that we have to ride back to town in a brand spanking new cattle truck. The truck was used to haul stuff for the beach club etc. and maybe stranded guests. ![]() ![]() ![]() The manager was insisting that a couple of us ride in front with him, but Karen, Barb, Sharon, and I decide to ride in back. It was hilarious. By the time we got to Playa we were covered with white sand. People are staring at us and Karen is yelling that we are coming back from a tour. We laughed so hard. It was a blast.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was saying Oh my God... Oh my God... over and over and the driver was patting my arm telling me it was going to be OK. I thought if he was gonna drive backwards he could at least keep both hands on the wheel! ![]()

Pic of Hwy 307 at ADO stop
Tulum is behind me as I took the pic. The Colectivo dropped us off across the highway (pictured in photo.) The ADO station is on the Tulum side of the highway.
![]() And here is the short road from highway to Tulum Archealogica
