Opinions? Beachs at the Sandos Caracol???
Help our family of 4 traveling w/ two kids (12 & 8) please! In Jan '08 we visited Playa for the first time and stayed at the Viva Wyndham Maya on a "deal". Fine resort - we were happy with the class of services for the little $$ we paid - but LOVED their beach. We walked the length of the beach both North and South only to discover that we majorly lucked out in this regard. However we recently found a "deal" at Sandos Caracol for even less money than we paid at the Maya but I've read conflicting reports of the rocks on the beach. Can someone familiar with this resort define rocks??? Let me say that I found this resort to be quite inexpensive and I DO LIKE A DEAL but would consider another more pricy resort if my kids aren't gonna be happy and/or safe in the water.

I was just there in June of 08. The beach is beautiful but there are LOTS of rocks in the water...all sizes. There were a few places to get in and out without too much trouble...but if the kids want to be able to really run and splash, they will need water shoes. I never thought of the rocks/boulders as dangerous...just bothersome. That said, I got a deal too and thought it was WELL worth the money I paid.
PS. I have also stayed on the south end of PDC (actually at the other Sandos) and the beach and water there was more awe inspiring that on the north end...but it's all really just shades of perfection isn't it? |

Sandos Caracol
"Shades of perfection" - that it is! You know, I'm not too picky. Just give me a decent bed, decent food and decent service and I'm happy. Although this will only be our third AI trip, we have been really happy with the two previous. However, after having visited each of those properties with knowledge of the travel reviews, I guess some people can complain about most anything. You know, for what I paid in Jamaica and in Playa, I didn't EXPECT the Four Seasons. THAT trip is best done WITHOUT kids.

Hi there. We stayed at the sandos caracol last summer and although the resort is lovely the rocks did spoil the beach for us. It was very painful getting into the sea and my language deteriorated as I acquired more and more stubbed toes as the holiday progressed.
Depends what floats your boat i guess - we love the opportunity to swim in the caribbean, so we probably wouldn't pick the caracol again. It is also a bit too far out of town for us. We stayed at the sandos playacar this year and loved the beach and swimming there. Enjoy where ever you end up staying - I'm very envious. I don't think we'll be visiting Mexico in 2009 as my husband wants to try Aruba - is a big wrench to leave Playacar behind |

Which type of room did you stay in at the Sandos Playacar? We are considering it for next April. We were there when it was the Gala, enjoyed it but found it a bit small, am looking forward to a little more room to move aorund.
