Moving to Playa January 6

Hi everyone! I am buying a one-way ticket to Playa del Carmen for Janaury 6th and will see where the wind takes me from there. I have been there twice and fell in love both times. Since I have gotten a job on the internet which enables me to be virtually anywhere in the world, I have chosen Playa to be the place I call home. I'm going to search through the message boards and try to get more info on where I can find apartments, meet up with other Americans, and just find random useful information! This message board is amazing.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, and to Playa!

Thanks Susie! Haha, I don't know of any positions open at the moment but if there are I'll let you know! Always good to get resumes though. I do QA and guerilla marketing.

I googled "Guerrilla marketing" and got a rather broad explanation, what exactly is your description?

Basically, it's like "underground" marketing. Through word of mouth, web 2.0 social networking, etc. It's not like huge advertising and marketing which costs millions of dollars. We do it smart and on a budget! ;-)

Welcome Sugarbrick. Good luck on your adventure to Playa. Is there a website
to post one's resume? How cool for you.

Yeah it's pretty awesome! Contact me privately and I will let you know where I work. Not sure if I am comfortable with posting it on a public forum yet. Thank you! :-)

See you in Playa. Maybe run into you if you attend a PEEP MEET. I take in all the meets I can when there. It is a great way to meet people from everywhere. Met a couple from my home town a couple of years ago, small world. I will be in Playa Dec. 30 to Feb.16 and the only thing I will be working on is a case of Sol and a suntan.

Sugarbrick--I'll be following on the same trajectory about six months later to see if living in Playa is workable for the internet dependent.

Nadam--Google is hiring "experts" to work for, I think, $20 an hour as advisers. A few writers I know supplement their income working for them. I can dig for the link if interested (or it may be on their website somewhere).

Welcome to Playa (or soon anyway)!

I moved here in the beginning of September, and I can say that it's the best thing I could have ever done.

Finding an apartment should be no problem at all.

The Google link now says positions are filled but a friend who works in the program said it would reopen in January--so I guess just save the link and check back later.

Google Jobs

Initially they (Google) solicited bloggers using Blogspot (which they now own) who where "experts" in their blog topic to help advertisers develop targeted campaigns.

There are also quite a few people making a decent living with Ad Sense, writing on a topic while running Google ads alongside the text, earning so much per click (and it could be $10 a month up to $10,000 or more). If you create a blog using blogspot.com, you'll see the opt-in option for the Ad Sense program. If you can write knowledgeably about popular topics (with a lot of advertisers seeking attention) it can be a no brainer. For example, if you do a search on Google for "hotels playa del carmen" note the ads that come up on the right (though they might not appear down there--in the U.S. you get about twelve ads appearing with the results). If you wrote a blog about Playa del Carmen using blogspot, and opted-in for Ad Sense, those ads would appear in your blog and you would earn a percentage of each click. That may not be good topic in a revenue sense, but I've seen Playa del Carmen blogs not running the ads that could earning decent pocket money.

People writing about Alzheimer disease, for example, get a lot of traffic and clicks. I think the key is writing about stuff that interests you that has some commercial value.
