Strawberries

Probably only locals will appreciate this, but...

I just have to report that I picked up a big ole 2 lb container of fresh Driscoll's strawberries at Sam's last night. They charged me 60+ pesos, but I was sure it was marked 50-something on the shelf. But I wanted them bad, so I didn't fuss. So I got them home and... they were DELICIOUS!

And...

Every. Single. One. Was. Edible! That is so unheard of down here as to be nearly impossible. Whole and fresh and ripely sweet and totally without soft spots. I had a few last night and then sat here this morning and ate every last one of them. OMG, they were delicious and, if you were of a mind to do it, they would be the perfect size/flavor for covering with chocolate for an unbelievable treat.

It was a great reward for 2 1/2 hours of grocery shopping in 3 different stores!

Thats really not a bad price. I think I paid $5 recently

They were worth every peso. And I'd have paid almost as much to eat a fruit plate with a fraction that much fruit in a restaurant when all I really would have wanted from it were the strawberries anyway!

next time try dipping the berries in sour cream and then rolling in brown sugar! Warning---- it's addictive.

I stay away from sugar, but I dipped mine in lowfat cottage cheese whipped silky smooth like a cream cheese/cool whip mix and sweetened with splenda and vanilla... also pretty addictive.

If you are looking for an adventure in dipping try a very high quality balsamic vinegar

but yes good sweet strawberries are worth mentioning

Another taste sensation is to dip strawberries in coarsely ground black pepper. Sounds strange, I know.

We have a couple of flats of strawberries today, so I tried this. I have to say its interesting, but of course has a very strong pepper aftertaste. I think if my berries were sweeter? I will try it again.

My staff looked at me like I was out of my mind (so pretty normal)

if you ever get the urge for a trip, go to irapuato, the strawberry capital of mexico. it's a nice town.
