In December I decided to simply pick up a few folding beach chairs and a beach umbrella so that we could hang out on a quiet stretch of beach with our dog. Taking our dog to the beach meant that a Palapa rental was not an option I wanted to use. Strictly speaking dogs are not allowed on the beach, though I usually see at least one dog under the Palapas at Mamitas when we visit.
I started my search for the folding chairs and umbrella early as I knew this would be hit or miss. I stopped by Wal-Mart (nothing) and San Francisco Asis then Chedraui (nothing). The next day I was in Cancun so I checked Sam’s club, Costco and Wal-Mart still no luck. Finally the next day I checked Sam’s club in Playa and found the umbrella only (a very expensive one, but that was OK as it stays at our beach house).
As we had the beach umbrella but no folding chairs, we took some other chairs we owned down to the beach and had a great day.
In February Wal-Mart had the folding chairs beach chairs so I bought them (remember this search started in December).
My point………you may be able to stop by Wal-Mart or San Francisco Asis and buy what you need. Or you could end up searching every big store in Cancun and Playa and come up empty handed. Chedraui cannot even keep the basics (like Limes for example) in stock at all times, and so you may be lucky or you may not.
Have a “Plan B” in mind with respect to any purchase you intend to make in Q Roo.
....and we did find a nice beach with no rental Palapas or lounge chairs. Those are always available if you know where to shop.
