Helllo - I am a newbie from northern Minnesota - trying to thaw out too! The temperature here yesterday was -29 in the morning! I am thinking I need to go back to Playa. My husband and I went for the 1st time last March - I loved every second of the full 9 days we were there. I would love to take my kids - he is not as "into it" as I am....Have fun!

RELAXING! Sheeesh... Dirty minded people around here. There are so many kid fun things to do as well that it's also a must do trip as well. Hanging out with your kids, allows you to ACT like one too! We do an (every other) kid trip. But I gotta say I miss goofing off with them on the adult trips. Last trip was with my 17 year old daughter, and our friends boys. (13 and 7) Plenty of fun for all ages in Playa.Oh! And welcome to BOTH of you newbies! And don't mind Babaloo. Truth be told, he's a super nice (and helpful) local that has a rep to maintain. Sorry for spillin' the beans.

Thanks for the reply! It's great to talk with others that have the same interests and are thinking "vacation"! I too would love to the do every-other-year thing......It was nice to get away with my hubby and friends last year but I would love for my kids to experience the culture in Playa as well. I am sure there is plenty for them to do too! Not sure if we would do AI or stay at a "local" hotel. What did you do for a hotel?

The Ibero Star Tucan/ Quetzal is a nice ALL family resort. But there are many others. What age are you talking about? |

Great input! My kids are 5 and 11 - so the more I think about it an all inclusive would be WONDERFUL! I have found some really great deals at the RIU hotels in Playa - do you know anything about them? I would like to be close to Playa so we could walk to Playa in the evening if we wanted to. Also, I would like to take them back a ways from 5th avenue to see some "local" restaurants and things. I can totally picture my kids LOVING an all inclusive - especially for the food and ice cream - not to mention the non-alcoholic frozen drinks.....for them!

Thanks again for the help! I would love to know of the place with the cool pool....
I knew the RIU's were further down in Playacar - actually my husband and I walked that far last year and it was not bad but with kids it would be far! The cab fare is not bad though - especially considering we would probably only go once a day or so! |

Welcome again. We have stayed in the Playacar area at some AI's, Sandos and Ibero Star Tucan/ Quetzal. The Playacar area is very safe, and walking distance to town is about 20/25 minutes from the Sandos. We walked to town almost every day. Sometimes we would take a cab back, if we were to tired from shopping. The AI's are perfect if you have kids, they really keep the kids busy. I'll put a web site here that will give you a idea of the playacar area resorts in relationship to PDC. Some of the resorts have changed their names, such as the Sandos, which was called the Gala. Good luck!
