Thank you for sharing your vacation through your TR with us Joana. It was an excellant journey I loved your photos ........they were great. What an interesting place. And it did seem that there were very few people present. It's kind of nice to be able to go some where and not have to deal with big crowds if you don't want to. Where are you off to next????

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Inbetween I felt like I was "failing" with the report as I saw the many hits and there were so little comments- so I felt like people don't enjoy it.

Again- about the people situation here: it's low season now, so on the beach, which is huge, the crowds disperse quite a bit. Inland there is hardly anyone as most come here for the beach and pure relaxation. There is not much "culture" per se here compared to other destinations- but if you like interesting landscapes and little villages with interesting details there is a lot to find.

If anyone from afar really decides to make this trip I'd suggest for them to go for three or four weeks and do some island hopping. Every island of the Canaries is different to the next one. Fuerte- well, you have seen it. Lanzarote is even more volcanic when it comes to the rocky structures, has a bit more green though. Gran Canaria is quite green and has a "springy" feel to it. So there is a lot to discover- and a lot of space to relax, too.

Where am I off to next- hopefully Playa after my final exam!

On the contrary...I felt like commenting on practically every one of your pictures! You're a terrific photographer! I loved seeing and reading about a part of the world that I knew very little about when you started. Very good job!

Good luck on your final exam!

Finally saw this report! I don't look in here enough.

Great job.

it certainly does! The area looks sort of like what I would imagine Afghanistan looks like in parts.

Your photos are beautiful. I think a lot of what makes a great photographer is being able to see what would make an interesting shot, and capturing it perfectly- you have that nailed.

Thanks again for all the sweet repiles.

On a final note on the trip: I JUST got home- after 24 hours of traveling without sleep........the trip should usually take SIX hours all transfers included.

What happened?
Well- first of all when we got to the airport after a one and a half hours car ride (me driving) we saw our flight was delayed for three hours. *sigh* Reason: total weather chaos in Germany, snow and ice, airports closed etc..
Okay.
Two hours later the flight got moved back another three hours- totalling a delay of six hours, and as we had to be there two hours early for check in we had eight hours on the clock when boarding (actually nine and a half with transfer).
Upon boarding we knew we'd missed the connection flight and there was no way to fly into Hamburg as our airport has a night curfew. Meh.
The airline told us there are 365 people on board the plane of which 300 need to go to other destinations, many to Hamburg (around 50) and that they would find a way to get us there. WE were thinking stay in Nuremberg over night, take first flight out......or something.
Well- we got to Nuremberg at half past one at night....they only had one counter with three folks open that were trying to control the angry mob of 300 folks.
News were we'd by flying to Hannover and then be transferred to Hamburg by bus, so we'd be in Hamburg by six in the morning. Argh.
There were many organizational probs with boarding- and in the end we were in the plane at the gate for two hours as they had checked in two people to many, so those had to leave the plane again and their baggage had to be taken off board. Meanwhile it was HOT in the plane and we didn't even get drinks.
So- after another delay of x hours we flew to Hannover- got there at four something. There was not even ground personell to greet us or tell us what was up with our luggage now OR how the rest of the transfer would be handled. Me and some other passengers went up to the check ins- there were five folks of the airline there but they didn't give a shit. Finally one of the passengers almost went apeshit and asked for the manager on duty. Even when she turned up thing were moving slowly. So we sat in the bus for another two hours before we left. Finally go there around eight- and then had to go to lost and found because of our luggage...........

So I am finally home, totally worn out- and all I can say is: do never, ever fly Air Berlin!!!!!!

This is a fantastic report, Joana, thanks for sharing. Gorgeous photos, too. Sorry your trip ended with a hassle. I've been to Spain, and loved it, but not to the Canaries. Thanks for "taking" me. Awesome! I don't want to hijack your thread, but your photos reminded me so much of the video for the song "On the Beach" by Chris Rea. I think this video was filmed there. Any of it look familiar?

Oh....my....goodness!

What a horrendous trip home for you. Such a rotten end to an otherwise great vacation- that sucks when that happens!

YouTube - Chris Rea : On The Beach
Ah- what a great song. And how young he was then!
While you are right and it could be there the houses rather look like Greece, as does the lighthouse. But you are right with the beaches looking quite the same.

Riss- the worst part is that I couldn't really sleep yesterday, so now I am REALLY tired and have to go to work. Ack.

Lovely pictures Joana. I had looked through the report but didn't comment before. I want to visit this area one day. We've only been to Barcelona and Calella.
