Anybody who wields blades as big as that may call himself anything he likes.

Now I'm going to find out to satisfy my own curiosity. There's a huge difference in having one in those situations as opposed to strapping one on and carrying it in to the Bucket or La Rana.....

I definitely agree. there's no need at all for a machete in downtown playa...or any downtown/town setting for that matter. See, i have no idea where i'm heading on this trip. I just have my ticket, passport, and backpack...and intentionally don't have a plan except to travel a good amount, and hopefully will end up in some very desolate places. I'd feel very under prepared if I didn't have a tool like this. I guess i'll just leave mine at home and buy one when i'm down there.

Lol...i'm also bringing a compass!! why??...because i won't be able to ask the concierge which way east is if I get lost!!

Just take a walk. If your hat floats, you're going East.

I know what you mean. We love to camp and back pack. Next trip down I'm hoping to hike into a secluded section north of Majual. You can bet I'll have a machete with me whether it's legal or not.

I say bring it, i agree with you there is no reason not too, seeing locals use it. There is no law against it, you are just pushing everyones sensibilities as the scared travelers. Also i don't think the local gardeners have a Machete permit or license.

I would like to know if you can bring it on the airplane checked or not.

I've checked machetes (and also Glock magazines) from El Salvador to Maryland. No problem.

I don't think anyone is going to say a word about anyone having a machete in Quintana Roo. As long as you don't use it to kill your gay lover for the purpose of later eating him. The last guy that did that got in trouble.

Damn- and here was I leaving my axe at home when going to that barbecue.......those ribs would have been such an easier deal with that.

Non-gay lovers are OK?

Just spoke with US airways, and they said that if it's sheathed and safe for a baggage handler to handle, then it's ok with them if I check it inside my pack.

You're quite welcome. And come back when you have a really strange question. We could use a change from the same old, same old. As long as you can live with the fact that we may not take your inquiry as seriously as you might like. We gotta' have some fun around here....the pay sucks.

My screen name is my first name and last initial. No digits. Lost them last time I used my machete.
