The best rewards for attending a Sales presentation. Which one?

Ok,

So this will be our 4th time to Playa, love it.

But the one thing we usually do to save some cash is to attend at least one time share presentation so we can get our trip to Xcaret free with the free buffet. MMmmm hungry just thinking about it!

I wanted to see which time share presentations other people have attended and they were very happy with their "reward" after the sales pitch.

Thank you for your 2 cents.

Brian

if you are not interested in buying...skip it
it's a waste of their time and it's 3 hours out of your day
do everyone a favor and just pay for Xcaret
my two cents

Aren't you being a little harsh? Some people actually seem to enjoy self inflicted pain!

In my opinion, there isn't enough free stuff in the world for me to endure that type of harassment.

Sorry I can't recommend a "good" timeshare presentation, but that's only because I've never done one and never will.

I didn't think this was going to be a serious thread once I opened it. But it is?

Ummm....I don't even have an answer!

He's not alone, I know there are a number of people who not only don't mind these things, but enjoy them. They wouldn't offer the incentives and gifts if they weren't successful. I just can't help point him in the right direction.

Anyone?

"Sigh"

Yes, I'm serious.

Sorry, but my wife and I are trying to stretch our money as far as possible. I don't mind listening to a 90 presentation in exchange for a Full day at Xcaret paid in full.

In these economic times, money saved is money saved.

The last one we attended, we we're pretty close to purchasing. But we have a rule to always sleep on it. NExt morning, decided not to bite.

You're not alone, Brian. I'm sure someone will pipe up soon with recommendations.

One question, do the people ever get aggressive or mean with you? And does it ever run over the 90 minutes?

We got duped into going to a timeshare presentation a few years ago in Cancun. We were at our hotel talking over where to go for breakfast and a cab driver overheard us and told us he had some coupons for a free breakfast at a fancy schmancy hotel; all we had to do was listen to a presentation after the meal. Red flag! When we got there, over the course of about 3 hours they fed us, took us through a beautiful, luxurious hotel, and then finally sat us down to meet the killer, the closer. The closer was a former NFL kicker with the Cowboys who has a Spanish name. He was sharp as a tack and perfectly bilingual. The first thing he did was show us his Super Bowl ring, then came the high-pressure closing pitch. He tried to turn all our negatives into positives. But, the more we refused, the more agitated he got- his face turned red as a fox's arse. I literally thought I was going to have to get physical with him to even get us out of the room. We laugh about it now, but it wasn't funny at the time. I've seen high-pressure sales before, but this took it to new levels. It may be different in Playa, I'm not sure, I'll never go to another one. Just be aware that they can make it seem like you're just going to a no-obligation presentation but when they get you there it's a very different thing. Good luck!

No disrespect, but if money's tight (I'm with ya there!) how can you even consider purchasing a timeshare????

Maybe instead of being tormented with hours of sales pitch for a free Xcaret trip, spend some time in places that don't charge. Plenty of beautiful free beaches and adventure away from the overpriced tourist traps.

The last one we went to was "the best". I will try to find the name of it.

We were picked up from our hotel and taken to the resort. We had a woman sales person. First we ate a free breakfast in their main resort restaurant. It was awesome.
Next we toured the whole resort, the rooms, the restaurants, etc. After about an hour of touring we came back to a "meeting room". Here is where she started some real "selling". She explained all of the packages and options available to us. We explained that it wasn't right for us and we explain clearly from a sheer financial point of view, why it wasn't right for us. Next, her manager comes over and then gives us an ever better deal than the original one. I'll be honest, it was very tempting. but, my wife and I always sleep on it.
So we thank him and said no. They didnt try to draw out numbers, etc. The dude signed our vouchers and then we we told where we could redeem them. We walked over there and we were handed 2 all inclusive passes for Xcaret and some CASH also for transprtation to and from Xcaret.
In my opionon, well worth 2 or 3 hours out of my day.

If you can have that type of experience, I agree it doesn't sound like a bad deal. But, I wouldn't doubt if Dan-o's experience is more likely. I also got duped into going to one (I explicity asked about 5 times if I was going to a time share presentation and the guy said no). What I didn't like was that after I heard their initial pitch and said "no", I didn't feel like I could just demand to leave and demand my payment as perhaps they could say I didn't fulfill my part of the obligation to listen to them and they thus didn't have to pay me. So, I endured another 30 minutes of battling. I think the value I got was rougly $75, but if you got 2 all inclusives to Xcaret and some cash, that is much better. I could maybe see doing another one if I was really really bored, but wouldn't actively seek one out.

Good luck to you though.

That sounds like a walk in the park compared to my timeshare experience; however, since I have a problem with the deceptive practices some timeshare companies use, as well as the general concept of timeshares, I don't go to their presentations and I don't take their incentives. Don't you think if you go to their presentations and take their "rewards", yet you have no intention of doing business with them, that maybe you're being "deceptive" as well, or at least going under false pretenses? Just my point of view, don't take it personally.
