Help! Good restaurant near ferry for old parents
I live on Cozumel and am bringing my 85 year old parents over tomorrow on the ferry. They will be picked up for the ride to the CUN airport by the van service at the alternative pick up spot -- up the hill from the ferry pier and to the left in that fancy new cobblestoned area.
I would be most grateful for recommendations on restaurants in this immediate, cobblestoned area so that my parents don't have to go out of their way to find a place to eat on the way to the pick up. Clean looking and upscale are what I'm looking for. Is that Cubano place still there, for example? Other rec.'s? thanks so much in advance for any advice. Hi Carina! They would probably like Rolandi's, which is Italian food. It's just to the left when you enter Paseo del Carmen, walking on the ferry dock away from the sea (the mall is called Paseo del Carmen).

Rolandi's
Thanks for the info and the rec.'s Rolandi's sounds liike the ticket alright. I understand they have a wonderful rep in Cancun and recently opened in Playa. They are opening a branch on the waterfront here on Cozumel "soon". Which I put in quotes as this is Mexico and the sign has been up for at least 3 months with no indication of progress. All us locals over here are eagerly awaiting the opening. Whenever we git it. But now I can check it out thanks to my parents.
Again, appreciate the feedback. Success!! PS I found some pretty negative feedback on the internet for the Cubano place. Made it sound like kind of a tourist trap with high prices and they only serve grilled meat -- not the luscious cuban sandwiches and bean soups I was hoping for. Is that a correct assessment of this place? Read the reviews on tripadvisor. |

Yes. The Cuban place, while they have great entertainment and also very good Mojitos, did not impress me at all with their food. I thought it would be much much better. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't even remember seeing Cuban Sandwiches on the Menu (but I could have missed it). Go with Rolandis.

We took my husbands folks (same age approx as yours) to La Parilla for their first night in Playa. It is a bit touristy, but the food and atmosphere were great. We got to sit up above 5th ave and watch the excitement and many marichi bands. It is just a few blocks from the ferry I think. (Calle 8 ?) My mother in law has trouble walking, but made it just fine.
We both shared one of those giant tall margaritas (had them pour it into two smaller cups) and it lasted us both throughout the night. I had the ribs which were great and everyone else had a decent arrachera. The other nice restaurant (kind of spendy, but well worth it) on calle 6? is Chicago Don Jose. My hubby and his mom had a grouper special that was fabulous. My steak was great too, but too huge-- could have shared easily. I love the roasted potatoes and ask for the gorgonzola sauce.MMM |

La Tarraya is very good and not too far from the ferry dock. One of the oldest restaurants in Playa I believe and very good cheap fish. Love that place, go at least three times every time I am in Playa. Hubby and I split the whole fish last time with tortillas, yummy.
