Excursions/ things to do in area around Grand Bahia
We are staying at the Gran Bahia first week of march. This will be our 3rd trip to the area and are looking for different things to see and do. We have been to xel ha, xcaret, akumal, tulum ruins, and coba ruins. We love snorkeling and will return to xel ha this time as it is very close. Just wondering what else is around this area to see. I like to idea of a cenote but there are so many, can anybody recommend one that we could travel to on our own. Also any other excurtions or day trips you would recommend?
Thanks in advance! Great board, love all the advice and tips! |

I have been to four cenotes, and my favorite by far was Chaak Tun cenote. It is located on Juarez, past 307 about 5 miles down.
Hidden Worlds was a fantastic time as well! Ziplining in the jungle, and into a cenote. Loved it! |

Heading down to Tulum for a day at the beach club el Paraiso was fun.
Also we had fun taking the bus from Playa to Akumal and then taking a cab (60 pesos)from the main beach to snorkel at Yal Ku lagoon (110 pesos) and then walking back, stopping at La Buena Vida for lunch and/or a drink (then back to Akumal main bay to snorkel with the sea turtles). ![]() I know you said you have been there, but I could do that trip over and over and over! |

When we stayed at the Bahia Principe Akumal in 2004 they offered a 1/2 day excursion from the hotel to a place called Aktun Chen. It was a just short ride across the highway.
Back then it was around $10 each (including the transport to and from the hotel). We went into caves and saw some underground cenotes. There was also a zoo type feature where there were animals. All in all it was an ok and cheaper way to spend an afternoon and not be surrounded by hoards of people. I don't think we would ever go back but we did like it while we were there. |
