Some random questions from someone new in Playa and loving it
Hola Everyone!
We moved to Playa about a month ago with my husband and I just found this website and it's just great! Very informative and fun as well, so congrats to all of you working on it! I already got some useful grocery shopping tips here but I have a few more questions, a bit random ones: Is there anything like selective waste management here? Haven't seen any traces of it. Do you know how to cook the dry corn kernels (you can find them on the dry lentils and beans shelf in the shops) into an actual food? Do you soak them in water? Any recipes/websites? And finally, and this is a bit of a sensitive one: do you know a good fertility clinic where they speak English? Muchas gracias, Juci |

Depending on where you live (and what kind of walk through traffic you get) leave cans in a separate bag by the trash bin, and someone make a few pesos on them.
Dry corn kernels = popcorn, maybe? |

The goddess Ixchel - there is a statute to her on Isla Mujeres Personally, I think everywhere is good for fertility practice

![]() Great idea about the hominy! Now, anybody got a molino? ![]() And with the fertility question, we are kind of through with the chanting and touching body parts of fertility god statues, so that's why we would actually need a clinic |

Cozumel's most northern point was where women went for the fertility practice..... Castillo Real.... someone can correct me if I'm wrong. |

It could well have been both places
![]() A Brief History of Isla Mujeres, Garrafon and Punta Sur Hundreds of years ago, the Mayan declared Isla Mujeres sacred to the fertility goddess Ixchel, placing female statues there by way of worship. When discovered by the Spaniards in 1517, the statues inspired their name for the island, Isla Mujeres. |

I wouldn't be surprised if you'd have to go to Mexico City to find a good fertility clinic, unfortunately. You could start with contacting the doctor we had when our kids were born, and he will let you know your options. His name is Dr Medellin and he's in Cancun. I don't have his number here, but you might find him in the phone book (a long shot, I know) or maybe Laurab can help out with the number?
