Can you feel the bass?
We just got back from a week long stay in PDC and had an amazing time!
On our last 3 nights we stayed at La Tortuga. I simply can't say enough about the staff and the cleanliness of this hotel. They were truly outstanding. My only complaint, and it's a rather serious one. You can't sleep there at night. The Bass from the club Dubai that's around 100yrds away is so loud that I was literally woken up out of a dead sleep every night at midnight until 5am. I sleep with earplugs, I also happen to be a DJ so my girlfriend is used to sleeping in clubs. This was SO loud even she said it was impossible to sleep. (this is a rarity) You may want to replace the doors of your rooms, something with double paned glass. I feel sorry for anyone who stayed there for any length of time. It's truly not the hotels fault but in order to keep people coming back I would seriously consider doing something. |

I've heard about this but the blame was being put on Coco Bongo.
Coco Bongo is a concrete fortress, so i wasn't understanding the noise issue. But...Dubai...that makes sense now. There are noise ordinances in Playa. It might behoove the managements of the affected hotels to make a phone call. (La Tortuga is just one of several with this problem) |

Ok first I thought this was a fishing thread. I was going to say yes they are a bit slimy but feel fairly firm.
Second, yes the boom bada boom techno beat that permeates the main drag of Playa or Isla or Cancun gets old for me quick. |

Before you switch hotels, PM "Anna Tortuga" and tell her of your concerns. I'm sure she will work with you to resolve the problem and make your stay comfortable.

Not good!
We just got rate quotes from La Tortuga for May and now I'm thinking maybe not! I've always wanted to stay at La Tortuga but I can't deal with bass all night long......I have slept with earplugs to drown out the sound of my big old dog snoring but while in "paradise", I don't feel I should have to! Might have to move further north. Does the city really inforce the noise level once it has been brought to their attention?

at the condo we stayed at in December, on Fifth and 26th, the noise from the bar called 'Fe' across the street was VERY annoying (and not even music as much as people yelling and screaming)
... thankfully the bar closed at 2 AM every night, but it was still an issue as I couldn't sleep until after that time, and the only drawback of the vacation, truthfully.Next time to Playa, regardless of where we stay, we will be booking a room where all the windows face into a courtyard of some sort. The first three nights we stayed in one like that, and I slept like a baby- that is the key. I remember staying at the El Tukan Condotel two trips, where the rooms are all inward facing, and sleeping like a baby every night- and that hotel is right on Fifth- and a fairly busy part! |

La Tortuga
Greetings from La Tortuga. We have been following the noise issue very closely and I would like to share what is being done to solve this problem.
As soon as we heard Coco Bongo would be building, we contacted both Coco Bongo and local authorities. We had been guaranteed by every party involved that there would be no problem and so it seemed after they showed us all plans and measures they were taking building the club. The night it opened, December 23rd, we realized that these measures weren't enough and that some rooms had noise issues. We immediately contacted both Coco Bongo and local authorities, managing to do the following: - asked for and got Coco Bongo to lower the volume. Volume control solved the problem for many days but unfortunately it's totally up to the dj, and often at various times during the night djs completely ignore orders and turn up the volume. We are still working on this. - We asked for and obtained from local authorities that they control noise levels according to the law. The problem in this case is that club managers know beforehand when authorities will show up, and lower the volume to levels allowed by the law and then turn it up again once officials leave. - We have already ordered sound proof triple glass windows for all the rooms with a noise issue. They are already being installed. - We are going to raise the wall that limits our hotel on the clubs' side. - We are trying to get authorization from the owner of the land between us and Coco Bongo to put in a sound barrier that breaks sound waves. - We are also getting advise from an acoustic specialist, in order to work on the unpleasant noise waves that might affect the rooms. - Lastly, we are asking top levels of local authorities to take an immediate and conclusive action so that those responsible of the noise take responsibilities for their actions and solve the issue. I hope this answers some of your questions and eases your worries. I will keep you updated. Thank you! Great to hear!
Laura,
Wow, it sounds like ya'll are doing everything possible to solve the situation....We've been to Playa many times and have stayed at a different hotel just about every time and everytime we're there, we walk by La Tortuga and tell ourselves "We need to stay there next trip"....so that is definitely the plan. My neighbors here at home have two bassett hounds that howl at everything....surely that will prepare me for a bit of bass if it can't all be blocked out! Hope to see you in May! |

I feely badly for LaTortuga and this noise situation as I have had the same experience with new neighbors who bought the house next to me. It's a horrible situation to be in.
I've exchanged a few PM's with Laura and she said LaTortuga is putting in triple pane windows that should be in by end of February to help with this problem. With that being said, we are going to go for it and give LaTortuga a try! We were really excited about staying here as it offered everything we were looking for and hopefully with the new windows and the other things the hotel is doing, things will be under control by May. |
