Very cool!
My best is 3rd in my age group in a true sprint length. I was lucky though in that they switched up the age groups this year, so I was in the 25-35 group. If they done it the way they did last year, I would have been in the 20-30, and gotten at least 10th... They had to switch, though, because there was an oddly high number of younger entrants, so they broke up the younger classes more. |

Hmm...you mean besides giving birth au natural in 3 hours on January 28, 2003??? I guess it would probably be participating in my first duathlon - the Iron Girl - in September of 2006. 2 mile run/22mile ride/2 mile run in 1:56. I placed 156 out of 600...not so bad for my first attempt. We'll see if I can better my time this year.

That is why I said endurance sports, otherwise I figured someone walk talk about endurance exploits, much more explicit than yours. ![]() Quote:
I got in a 4.6 miler this evening in the dark. Stepped on a ice chunk and twisted my ankle early on, but then I remembered "Pain does not exist in this running thread, does it?" Running in the moonlight on trails is fun though when you don't step on stuff. |

I'm pondering this frozen 5k business... I think I might have to take to the frozen streets and see if I can even make it around the block in this weather first tho. I'm thinking my lungs are going to freeze... I'm a little scared. Would someone please explain how to layer properly for running in freezing weather? Today... I only had 30 mins to spend at the gym. Well 32 because I wanted a 2 min warm up. But I got 2.8 in 30 mins and I wasn't all that worn out. There was one moment when I was starting to strain a little and I thought "that model in that magazine over there wouldn't stop now! and look at her! you could kick her butt!" It made me laugh and I was able to make it to the next interval. Ahh... mind games. ![]()

Layering... I have thick running/wicking socks, and when it is below zero I often will wear 2 pairs. Pants. I have some heavy windbreaker/running type of pants that are just fine when it is zero and I'm going to be gone an hour or less. On my long 15 below run, I also put on my medium weight running pants. I imagine it would be best to have a tighter/spandex running pant on beneath but I don't have any of those Shirts/jacket. I just wear 2-3 wicking long sleeve t-shirts and then I have a wind resistant heavy running jacket. I wear a running facemask, then a hat, then pull my hood up as well. I also have big ole chopper gloves. I try to find stuff on clearance as obviously it can get pricey with all that gear. I slow my pace down in the winter so I usually don't get too hot. But if I do, I just unzip my jacket. Would be great to meet you at the Frozen race! I heard the model in that magazine is going to run it.

Woo Hoo!! Do it! As for layering, get a decent base layer of polyester/"under armour-esque" clothing. Something to pull the sweat away from your skin. Then layer as much as you feel necessary with lightweight fleece or whatever. On breezy days, simply put on a windbreaking outer layer. Last week, at 10 degrees, I went with poly tights under unlined windpants for the lower, then brushed fleece long sleeve poly pro and a lightweight zip up fleece for the upper, a fleece neck/face coverup, and a stocking hat. Was sweating after 10 minutes. |

Told ya. He knows all that technical jargon. I don't even know what brushed fleece and some of that other stuff is.

I'm getting back into things kinda slow, but getting back, nonetheless. Yesterday was a 3 mile hike over the course I intend to run to make sure it's clear of ice (check!) and upper body weights. Today was the same 3 mile hike- not a run because it was snowing and slick. Also lower body weights. Hopefully tomorrow will be my first run, but if it's raining, I'll do it Saturday. Rain=mud=slipping=not that fun. I don't really have a time goal- the best I've done is 30 mins, so close to that would be good. I more just want to get back into running and see what my pace is. Then I can start to set some time goals (and maybe some distance ones).

Hola peeps! I went and visited my dad for the last 3 days and did not get any running in. I am still fighting a cold and spent the last few days around smokers
I feel awesome and pumped up about my training though! I brought some books and magazines to read about tri's and have had my nose in them constantly. My memory of the decade: I don't have one as I haven't ran a single race yet! I never thought I could do this but now I realize I can I have dabbled with so many sports over the last decade and I have been most successful to date with dragonboat racing ![]() ![]() ![]() This commercial cracks me up!! : YouTube - Clif Bar Triathlon Training |
