Lost/stolen laptop on coach to cancun from playa

I had it above my head but was too busy cuddling with my partner and no one sat behind us untill a older foriegn coupler which i didnt notice came on and later left i think at puerto morelos. Iīm gutted ofcourse because all my work is now gone and i had sooooo much sensitive info, my own and all my customers. Good thing i have a system password at bootup (before windows) but any pc shop will know how to reset it. That will buy me some time. And i broke my own rule of always making a backup before a journey! Always! but i thought it was a short trip and didnīt backup 3 months of stuff and all my pictures of 3 months of playa and so many passwords! I hope a non pc literate mexican took it, at least he wonīt know what to do with it and will format it

Argh! anyway if you are reading this and know anything call please at 9841145678

Already reported it to two ADO bus stations but they dont have a proper lost and found dep...

Johnny,

You never travel with anything you are not willing to loose. By bringing the laptop you automatically entered into a contract with yourself to "guard" it and spend the effort and time to make sure you do not loose it.

Not bringing it you would have lost 1 week of work........bringing it you lost months of work.

Why don't we just pretend that this guy already feels REALLY REALLY horrible about this and already knows he made a mistake. No need to make him feel any worse than he already does. You like to make people feel bad, though, don't you?

I agree with what you wrote in general, but I'm sure the OP is well aware of that as well. It seems like rubbing salt on a wound !

Ouch! Dude that is harsh, do you chastise everyone that way when they make a mistake. I sense perfection in your world

That is too bad. Isn't sad that people are so dishonest anymore. What happened to honesty and helping others out. Hope you find it.

I have been living in playa for 3 months not one week, and laptop goes everywhere, its my work. so it wasnīt an option to take it or not. I just let my guard down once and boom!

Seriously i felt quite bad yesterday, but being quite spiritual and a fan of eckhart tolle and his books helped a lot. by the eveing i was enjoying a nice time with my girl.

It was a planned mini trip to holbox but now i am in isla mujeres and it is carnival time, Back to work when i get to playa tomorrow. I hope i have a recent backup, i recall making one in December.

oh the pictures! all gone! Makes you realy think about what is important in life. Learned a lot from this.

The pictures are the hard part, and would be for me, too.

Chances are, the laptop was taken home for the thief's personal use OR sold to someone else for personal use. It's possible--but unlikely--that your sensitive information will be used for what you fear.

That being said, be sure to contact all three major U.S. credit unions and ask that a "fraud watch" be put on your files. Be sure to change all the passwords for your sensitive on-line accounts--every credit card, every bank--you get the idea. And just use common sense--you know what information was there; take reasonable steps to protect yourself from it being mis-used.

I'm really sorry to hear about your laptop. It's more the time lost sorting it out than the expense of the item that's the most annoying part.

We all let our guards down at some point - life would be so much more intensely stressful if you had your guard up every moment of waking hour.
I was in Rome on public transport when two very elderly Italian ladies barged past me and my five year old son when getting off the train - I reached out to steady him and lo and behold, when we got off the train, my bag was opened and purse gone!! I never expected to be robbed by two octagenarians!

Here's hoping you get your laptop back.
