I think the Quintana Roo state championships are this weekend down near Tulum somewhere. I'll try to post news on that later.
I haven't seen anyone in a shorty yet, just surf shirts still. You can sneak out from around town if you are a capable rider. There is Playa del Secreto to the North by, say, 15 minutes and just beyond Puerto Morelos (sign to Acamaya Reef) is a decently wide beach popular for teaching and general riding use. The reef is pretty far offshore, so you have plenty of room. The beach isn't as nice, so it doesn't get too crowded typically. There's a big resort under construction there, so this might change soon. There's a good surf shop in town called Ikarus. They are on our directory.

I believe that Michael Holmes of this forum will be installing a weather station on his new home in Playacar. Until then, I don't know what to tell you but if you are here already, you'll know when it's blowing pretty easily.
