Anyone know of any fly fishing from the Mayan Palace beach or surrounding areas? Any informaion would be appreciated. My wife and I will be there from March 1st to the 8th and she is a huge fly fisherperson. I am trying to find out what is available for her.

Thanks

We stayed at the Iberostar Paraiso last June, and will be returning in April. We did not have much luck fishing from the beach, but you can go Flyfishing for Bonefish on the flats at the north end of Cozumel. A guide with a boat, and lunch cost 250-300 for a full day of fishing. The guides will pick you up right from the Cozumel Ferry Dock. The ride to Playa Del Carmen is about 15-20 minutes and then the ferry to Cozumel is 45 minutes. If you would like more info let me know

Thanks for the information. I have actually booked a guide by the name of Alejandro Euan Martin, he was suggested to me on another site. I was thinking that if there are rock formations near the beach there might be some reef fish that would take a fly. I was in the Bahamas last year and I took a guide out and had little luck but I was able to fish right from the beach and catch 5 or 6 bonefish. I was thinking that maybe my wife and I could do the same thing in Mexico. Did you see anything at all last year?

flyfishing

We will be staying at the Gala Resort in February and would like to hook up with a guide for 3 or 4 days.
How did you book them and did you do it before you arrived or after.
Any help would be appreciated.
thank you

My husband and I are also going in Feb 2003 and are looking for a good bonefishing guide. Can anyone give us a list of guides to contact? Also same guestion as above, is it best to book ahead of time, or will we be able to find something once we get down there?

I fished out of Playa Del Carmen in Janaury 2001. Took the ferry to Cozumel and hired a great guide - Alex Euan 011-52-987-26014 or ventura1@cozumel.net. His rate at that time was $250 per day with lunch. He speaks good english and has a good panga style boat. The fishing is in the Santa Maria lagoon north of the Cozumel ferry dock about 20 minutes. We saw about 40 -50 bones, singles and schoolies, hooked up 3 but landed only 1. Average size probably 2-3 lbs. It was my first time and the weather was blowy and rainy. There is some excellent wade fishing in the lagoon. If my casting and the weather had been better there would have been many more fish on. Bring your own gear and lots of flies as there is no source in Mexico. I also fished some from the beach/rocks south of the Gala resort. Hooked many hound fish, jacks, etc. on chartreuse clousers. Finally, I saw two large permit off the beach from the hotel sea kayak! No rod of course, but they are there. if you need more info. I'd be glad to share it. I suggest making your reservation in advance.

beach fishing playa del carmen

My wife and I will also be in PDC in late Feb and would like to find some walk/wade or kayak accessable fly fishing. We are both very experienced in salt water and flats fishing as well as experienced paddlers. Have been to the area but not for some time. Will be staying at the ******. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
