Wannaplaya's 11/01 - 11/11 Trip Report
Let me start off by saying that I almost didn't make a trip report because it is too depressing to remember what I left behind when I put my butt back on the plane home.
I have been truly, downright sad since leaving  OK, so here goes...I landed in Cancun on time. I went through customs/immigration and was outside to my ride in about 7 minutes - literally! In the future, I will only bring carry-on luggage. Got to my hotel in about an hour. While check-in was not for another 3-4 hours, since I was a young & single female (the front desk clerks were young men), I received some seriously fast and efficient service. I got to look at 3 rooms and pick the one I wanted  How cool is that!? I chose a decent room with an absolutely incredible panoramic view overlooking the beach. Off to Posada Freud to p/u the Playa Deal Card. To my sad dismay, Anna and James were nowhere in sight - got my card though! Then off to La Ranita. It was closed (it was only like 12:45p) and the employees were actually still there cleaning up from the Halloween festivities the night before. Too bad I missed out! So, I hung out at my hotel (Continental) and took a nap. I went off to meet Michael @ La Ranita at 10p. Michael is a true gentleman and wonderful company! I can't wait for us to meet again. Michael graciously played host for my first few nights and introduced me to the loves of my life "The Cabana Boys". Sun. I spent tanning at the hotel beach and napped. That evening Michael arranged for us to meet for drinks with the elusive James & Anna. Let me tell you folks - James is a sweetheart (his bark is worse than his bite (I hope it's ok to poke at you James?)) and Anna's picture doesn't do her justice! She is a walking beauty...and, they make a really, really nice couple. Both were very gracious and informative about Playa. We ate at Babe's (Chicken Caesar Salad). So good I went back another day for the same! Go Ericka!! Mon. I went to Xelha. Second time I'd seen it. I ventured to parts of the park that I missed last year and I made a concerted effort to actually eat & drink some of what I paid so dearly for. All in all, it was a great day. I got some great pictures. This evening we started at Cabalova (extremely strong drinks!) Hey James, don't forget about the idea I had for your box at La Ranita. And, remember, I want Rum, not tequila  This evening we got to dine at a local taco joint with James, Anna, a friend and Michael. WOW! That was an experience - don't remember the name of the place somewhere on 10th down from the Blockbuster? Tues. Michael took me to view some ruins and areas of Playacar I had yet to see. Thank you Michael for the tour. I spent the day tanning. Got thrown off of a jetski at high speed. Could barely move my neck for 3 days and bruised my right thigh badly! I hung out with some locals that night, ate in a really out of the way taco place and witnessed a real live Mexican Bar Brawl - thrown fists/swinging pool sticks/chairs over the head and all :o Wed. Seeing that I could hardly move, I did not venture any farther from the hotel pool to the hotel pool bar. You can see how that day went! Again, hung out with some locals that night. Thurs. off to Cozumel. Again, as with last year, this has to be my favorite and most memorable day of my trip. It was a crisp and beautiful day! The locals were hungry - as 4 cruise ships were docked off Cozumel. No worries - I started out at Fat Tuesdays. Then I walked through some of the local neighborhoods and saw (what I think) the daily life of the locals is. I started out by foot to Playa Azul. After walking for about 45 minutes in the now blazing sun & heat, I took a rest at the Policia open air tent. As luck would have it, the gentleman were more than friendly and one even provided me with a ride on the back of his police motorcycle the rest of the way. Let me tell you, it is really, really far. I don't know what I was thinking when I thought I could walk!!! Once at Playa Azul, I ate a really, delicious meal. Some kind of beef tip, onion, tomato concoction with beans, rice, tortillas, etc. I swam, sunbathed, searched for seashells and by the end of the day I had an eerie calm and sense of peace come over me - I almost started to cry. A truly perfect day if there ever was. I ate dinner at Sonora Grill and delivered to the waiter a picture that was taken of us last year. He was touched. The meal was fantastic - ribeye, potatoes, incredible tortilla soup!!, drinks, oh, just wonderful! Got another picture of us together and promised to bring it with me next year. OK - that's all for now. I will finish up the rest tomorow. I hope that this is not too long winded or boring... |

Wannaplaya,
Thanks for trip report (and the compliments). It is always fun to show people the places we like in our adopted home town. The dinner we ate with James and Anna (where the server could not get our order right but it did not really matter anyway) was at Tacos Israel. Rosa and I will be back to eat there before the end of the month. We should add some photographs to your trip report. I did not post any of mine (except the Erica picture) as I did not want to preempt your trip report. I will send you some technical support by PM in the next few days. - Mike. |

I just spent about 1 hour typing out the remainder of my trip "Part 2". When I hit submit, the log on page got displayed. As far as I can tell, my post didn't take. I want to puke. I am not re-creating it again - and it was good, damn it! Sorry folks. Not today anyway.

Do you remember the name of that Taco restaurant? My dad and I might have to go scope it out one night while we're there to see if anything like that happens again, LOL! As for being long winded/boring... I think the longer winded a trip report is the better (IMHO!) I wouldn't want to read a report that went something like "I went to PDC and had a blast! The end!" (<- too short and not enough to even classify as boring) Long/detailed trip reports make Nick a happy reader, lol. Please retype part two! You're fingers need the exercise anyhow, right? ![]() |

Boys
Lolabella,
Here is a pictorial answer to your question. ![]() I had sent this to wannaplaya, but I think I bungled the instructions as to how an image should be inserted into a post. I can’t wait to see the pictures of the bar room brawl, I was not a witness to that part of the story. - Mike. |

Cabana Boys
Michael,
Thanks for putting a much needed late-afternoon full-on smile with a small chuckle on my face. Though I think you should warn me before I display half-nekkid men on my screen (just teasing)! My boss, who we call Stealth (for obvious reasons), had just passed on by the computer. I think that the Cabana Boys need to be worked into the trip in April somehow. I will make sure I write an adequate trip report, although I haven't had any vacations since last New Years, I might be a little rusty. Looks like you were all at Captain Tutix. I remember is well....had to keep an ever watchful eye on my sister and her new friend, Jeremy while we were dancing there. Nick- I invite you to read my trip diary. I must say it is a good read because it was a spectacular time! Can't wait to go back! Reading this board only gets me more and more eager to go back. I have to wait 5 months! Thanks again! LB |
