Trip report Feb. 25 - Mar. 4

Better pictures in my report on posts further down. Had to resize them, so your might want to skip by this part.

Finally my trip report, a little late but here it goes. I should warn you, I'm not that witty and I don't take a lot of pics of people I'm more of a scenery person. We left cold, cold Cleveland, Ohio and got to Cancun airport with out a hitch, for us that's unusal. We arrived around 3:30 p.m. got the green light, bought our Ado bus tickets, stopped at Coconuts and drank a couple of beers while waiting for the bus. This is all going too smooth. Arrived in Playa del Carmen around 5:00 p.m. We stayed at Playa Maya so down Called 8 to enter the hotel from the beach, which is pretty cool.

View going down Calle 8.

What a great view. This was our first time there so we're pretty excited.

Entrance to Playa Maya

Have a couple beers in the room and check out the view from our balcony

Went to PG's, really enjoyed the band Crazy Train then went to Carboncita's for dinner. Great food, loved the grilled onions. Called it an early night since we'd been traveling all day.

Next morning when we were eating breakfast a whole group of girls in bikinis and an entourage of people come walking down the beach and set up right next to Playa Maya. Found out it was a catalog photo shoot for a swimwear line. Hubby said this staring out to be a good vacation. I went to the room, come back and can't find hubby or my camera.

Need I say more!

It was Thursday so we went to Bad Boyz, listened to music and some buckets of beer.

That's Hubby and a bucket

After Bad Boyz back to PG's then found our way to El Fogon. At first a little concerned when we couldn't find any English on the menu but we were able to muddle through. And it turned out the food was terrific, we went back a couple of night later too.

Next morning we got breakfast from the carts in the square. A local asked me if I was being daring.

Hubby trying to communicate.

Stopped by Babe's for one of the famous margaritas I had been seeing all the pictures of....

My opinion is it looks way better than it tasted. Actually it had very little flavor at all however, it does may a nice picture.

Went to El Oasis for lunch.....

Shrimp tacos, very good

Oh man, in the picture of your hubby and a bucket at Bad Boys, we are the group right behind him. Funny how close we were, but yet didn't meet . Wish we would have know it was you. Maybe next year .

I figured out how to resize the pictures, so here is a better look at it. After seeing their picture on different posts, isn't that YWGDon & Deb at your table. They were staying at Playa Maya when we were there.

Okay, here I go again. Here are the replacement pictures at the correct size for the pictures I orginally posted. Took me awhile to get around to it because as we all know...sometimes life gets in the way.

Calle 8 Not such a bad view to walk to your hotel.

The entrance to Playa Maya

The view from our balcony, I could get used to looking at that everyday.

Swimwear photo shoot was going on right next to us on the beach, hubby didn't mind.

Bad Boys on a Thursday night

El Fogon, what a great restaurant, great food actually I could go for some of that food now.

Hubby getting food from the carts on Juarez. I could go for some of that food too.

Strawberry margarita at Babe's. Makes a great picture but didn't really have any flavor.

Shrimp tacos at El Oasis. Now those had flavor!

I will continue on with the report and some more pictures later.

Besides PG's and Bad Boys we found a couple of other good bars that we liked

The Dirty Martini on 1st Ave between Calle 10 & 12
I love dirty martinis that's why we went there, they make a good one. But boy is vodka pricey in Mexico. We met Karen the owner, she was very nice and we met her dog Ella, a black lab. What I love about this area is that it is so dog friendly. Where else can you go and find a dog in a bar.

This lab wasn't Ella but Ella's friend Mason.

The other place we really like is The Beer Bucket. I know there has been discussion on it's not the same since the new owners took over but we didn't know it then therefore we can't compare. But for first timers we thought it was great. We met Big Al he gave us free shot of tequilla and was handing out jello shots.

I told you Big Al was friendly.

The bartenders, Dani, Andrea & Edith (she's not really as cranky as she looks)

Everyone looks happy in this picture.

Next day, after a long night, we go to Tulum (hubby's a little hung over but he was a trooper).

We thought we would walk from the ruins to
El Paraiso . I asked a guard at the ruins how far it was, me not knowing metric and him as it turns out not knowing miles made for an extremely long walk. He told us about a 1/2 mile, no such thing more like 2 miles we weren't even sure at that point if it was even down there but finally we came upon it just before giving up. It was beautiful.

Looks like a postcard!

We stopped into Alux for one drink. It's definately a must see, it's amazing. I've never been in a living cave before let alone one with a bar and restaurant.

Entrance to Alux

Next day we go to Akumal to see some turtles. Everybody who was coming out of the water was commenting on how many turtles they saw or stingrays and the infamous baracuda. We couldn't figure it out, we didn't even see a stinking fish. Thank heavens the beach is beautiful or we would have been really disappointed.
