Best way to get to the Jungle Place??

We have reservations for the Jungle Place during our visit. As this is the 1st time to the area, what's the easiest way to get to there?

When we were in Akumal we took a cab. The cab driver stayed in his car the entire time, and then drove us back to Akumal. I believe it cost us $10 each way.

We didn't have the directions with us, so the driver was a little confused, but as long as you have the directions it should be no problema.

Well, I don't have the directions either. I'm assuming the taxi driver would know where it is????
Yes, Hiedi sent me the directions, but I have some serious issues with my PC & couldn't get the file to open.

More help, possibly???????

Directions to The Jungle Place (this is what Heidi sent us!)

Directions to The Jungle Place - Monkey Sanctuary.

Head south past Akumal. Keep going straight. A few more minutes down the road, past Bahia Principe, you will see a sign for CD Chemuyil and a turn for same on the right side of the road. Make the right hand CD Chemuyil turn and continue straight on the black top road past the turns for Puma and Hormiga streets. Follow the curve to the left and then the road changes to a bumpy dirt road. Go slowly. In a short distance the road ends at another dirt road at a "T" intersection where you will turn right. You may see a sign for Cenote Xunan-Ha in front of you. This is a rutted dirt road with high brush on both sides so drive slowly and carefully. You will pass a couple entrances on the right - just ignore them. About 5 minutes from the "T" intersection you previously passed there will appear a clearing on the left with a green chain-link fence, palms and a wooden gate. Keep going straight another 50 meters (+/-50 yards) and turn left at the next driveway where there is a low stone wall and bamboo gate, and green sign that says The Jungle Place, Kuxi Kaax. Open the gate and drive in a short distance to the parking area where you see the first bungalow. Go to the 2 story house on the right and call to Heidi and she will show you to your accommodation. Enjoy your stay. Emergency phone for The Jungle Place from CD Chemuyil is: 984 1169777 or 984 1323722…… a bit of advice driving: What to do when making a left turn in Mexico -Pull off the road to your right as far as you can, and put your left blinker on. When the traffic behind you has gone by and no one else in the on-coming lane, make your left turn. That is one good thing about the new highway- it has as very wide right side to pull off onto. Some places have a special "exit" lane for you, as in the case of Akumal, you actually exit the highway off to your right, curve back around, stop, then cross the highway into Akumal. The signs can be a bit confusing. Just remember: you are on vacation in a foreign country so take your time, don't speed, and if you come to a confusing situation just slow down and pull off to the right.

Have fun.....it is SUCH a unique experience - we've been twice!

This is what I got from Heidi

They are from the Cancun airport but I'm sure you can just pick up where ever you start from. What day are you going? I noticed your count down ticker is close to mine. We are scheduled for 4/28 at 10:30 and we are soooooo excited. Anyway hope this helps.

Arrival Directions Directions Directions to THE JUNGLE PLACE (KUXI KAAX) from the Cancun International Airport. Exit out of the Airport keep to the right, you will approach Highway 307. South on Highway 307; the sign reads, CHETUMAL and will take you to all points south. There are gas stations on the way near Cancun, at Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras and Xpu Ha. After about an hour or more you will pass Akumal. Keep going straight. A few more minutes down the road, past Bahia Principe, you will see a sign for CD Chemuyil and a turn for same on the right side of the road. I guessing the best thing to do is to take the bus from PDC to Akumal, then taxi from there?

Yeah I didn't really have a handle where my counter was at. You see I have several other counters going. 25 days till my bachelor party, 26 days till the rehersal dinner, 29 days till the wedding, 30 days till disneyland, and 33 days till playa! All very very confusing. Where are staying? We will be at the Royal. I think we will try to take the colectivo from Playa to Chemuyil (sp?) and then the cab from there. We could split the cab from there or maybe even split the a cab from playa. We want to hang out in Akumal afterwards too. We look forward to meeting you and let me know if you want to share the trek there.

You can quite easily take a colectivo from Playa to Chemuyil, walk into town and grab a taxi. Do the reverse on the way back or cab back to Akumal and spend the rest of the day on the beach!!

Thanks Michele, that's looks like the best thing to do. Also, I enjoyed reading your blog about your day trip there!!

Hazeltoj.............a cab wouldn't work, I don't think, because we have 4 in our group (unless they have the van type taxi's). According to Michele, we should all go by collectivo. Maybe in Chemuyil we can find a cab to squeeze the 6 of us in.....that would be great....split 3 ways & save some pesos! We also want to spend the rest of the afternoon somewhere. I'll have to pull out my map & see what's the next closest thing on our list. We plan on a day each of Tulum ruins & El Pairiso/Akumal/Xel Ha.

We are stayimg at Xaman Ha, which looks like it's 2 resorts down from the ferry pier.

Congratulations on ya'lls upcoming wedding!!!

The bus does not stop in Akumal
Colectivo is your best bet

Ga_pechs,
I'm all for saving pesos! I was planning for Erin and I to visit Akumal for lunch and then some beach time afterwards. Erin can work on her tan and I can do some snorkeling. Xel-ha and Akumal are very close to the Jungle Place so pairing that up with the monkeys is probably a good idea. I hope to meet you guys at the peep meet on the 25th but Erin and I are taking the Tulum and Beyond tour on that day. We will come if we aren't too tired but that's no guarantee. Either way we should catch the colectivo together and try catch a cab in chemuyil. I can't wait to play with the monkeys!
