Some new finds & some old favorites, a foodies trip report, march 2009
Tuesday, 3/10/09 An old favorite & some cheap eats.
![]() The girls look good here at the USA3000 check in at St Louis considering it’s 4:15AM, & figuring it would’ve been 3:15AM 2 days earlier before the daylight savings time change. ![]() A light load and we are in Cancun at 7:45, but Jimi with his extra bag (stuff for his new condo) gets the RED LIGHT. They want to see the receipts for the new stuff they are bringing and guess what? Char has them. But next time they want each receipt to be with each item. While wanting for them Donna & I hit the ATM for some pesos. FYI, $3000 pesos cost me $196.96US and no fees at home. ![]() Our van arranged thru playainfo is waiting and we are on the road by 8:45. ![]() Since we are so early we arranged for a little side trip to check out Puerto Morelos ![]() With, of course a stop for a 6 pack of SOL. Donna and I are dropped off at Hacienda Paradise on 10th and 22nd and Jimi & Char go to their new condo, La Papaya on 20th Ave & 6th. It is only a little after 10AM and of course our room is not ready so off we go to the beach. ![]() We walk up 5th to 42nd and head for the beach. ![]() We end up down at El Pirata, one of our old favorites in time for lunch and my first Margarita of the trip. ![]() ![]() V ![]() The pictures tell the story here, a very good lunch. ![]() The birds at El Pirata seem to be getting along well. ![]() We walked the beach down to the plaza and back up 5th killing time until our room was ready, along the way we stop at another favorite, La Caprichoza. ![]() 2 for 1 Sol & Margaritas then back to our hotel to check in and to take a short nap. ![]() We are to meet Jimi & Char at the Luna Blue Bar that evening for a drink before dinner. They have had a busy day trying to tie up the loose ends of their new condo purchase. The closing on it is tomorrow. While waiting for them a familiar looking guy (Rob) sits down at the bar. I had never met him, only seen his face on the forums. Sorry we didn’t stick around long enough to meet Michele. We did really a good job this trip at trying places we had not been before. 6 out 7 dinners, 3 lunches, and 2 breakfasts. ![]() Dinner tonight was at Dona Mary on 30th & calle 28 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A lot of good food for $138.50 pesos ($10US) ![]() Saw this hot dog place on our way down 30th, any one ever try their dogs? Stopped by Ah Coco for a brownie then called it a night.

![]() We think it was chicken soup (caldo), Jimi & Char shared 1 of the 2 (I think) especials, shown above and it cost a whole $39 pesos for what you see. A man with his family sitting by us & who spoke some english recommended it to them. I forgot to take a picture of the bill or the menu that night. And yes, it was only $138.50 with 3 waters and a large bottle of Coke. ![]() I really liked the Panuchos, it is shown on the left of my plate. It is a corn tortilla that is stuffed with refried beans and then fried then topped with chicken and more. Oh ya, Donna also had a banana strawberry drink think called a licuados.
