It was so encouraging and humbling to hear that there were over 300 in attendance at last nights Survivor's Dinner sponsored by the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life in Hendersonville, NC

PROMOTERS OF BIRTHDAYS -That is the slogan for the American Cancer Society.

Every birthday means another year surviving cancer!

They sang Happy Birthday to all in the room - it was great (today is my cancer surviving friend George's birthday so he felt real special!).

Several thoughts were brought back

-- Live your life with a smile - smiles are free and contagious.

- there is so much more living to be done -

- life's a journey, live it to it's fullest

- tomorrow is a mystery to be explored.

My Reason to Relay

I walk the Relay because I want to see an end to cancer during my lifetime. Relay gives me the unique opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission by fighting back against a disease that has already taken too much.

I will be walking in the upcoming Relay for Life in loving memory of my father, my mother and Mark, all who passed away from cancer. I walk for Sue, Char's father, Jamey's father, Maggie's mom, Carole, Cathy, Jill, John & Barbara, and George.......all friends who are courageously fighting cancer...and winning!

Please support my efforts to fight back against cancer by joining my Relay For Life® team or making a donation. You can make a one-time gift or increase your impact by making a monthly donation to support the cause.

Your efforts will help the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information, advocate for all people to have access to screening and treatment, and offer free programs and services to improve the quality of life for people facing cancer. By being a part of Relay, we are joining a worldwide movement to help defeat cancer for future generations.

That's great!!
I went to a team leader meeting the other night and am getting very excited about our relay. We have 9 members on our team, but still need one more!
Wish some of you lived closer!!!
Sadly, our list of people we are walking for keeps growing, even more reason to support this cause!!!
Our team leader who we originally started this walk for is 21, battling cancer for the 2nd time and will not be able to make the relay now as he is in hospital getting some stem cell treatments. Inspiring young man! We could all learn a lesson from him and his fight at such a young age!!
Best of luck to you and your team Jacko, we'll be thinking of you while we walk!!

Hey Jack,

Hope you had a great night last night. Lots of walking, perhaps even a cat nap or two. Kudos to you and Linda for all your efforts!

Yesterday was my wife's birthday! Third birthday since being diagnosed with breast cancer. A really special day. Her presents were all fly fishing gear as two weeks ago she was fortunate enough to attend "Casting for Recovery" a retreat for breast cancer survivors. The retreat is an introduction to fly fishing. Cheryl had a guide that talked to her about the Zen of fly fishing, which was the perfect angle to "hook" Cher. Last night she was modeling her new waders, vest, boots, etc. We now have a new hobby we can do together.

We are walking on the 19th of June (same as Farmgirl) during our local Relay For Life here in Colorado Springs.

Again, hope you had a great night

If you have never experienced Relay for Life, you owe it to yourself to participate in the next one! The highlight of the night was lighting the luminaries - the entire football field lined with candles ($10 each) donated in memory of someone and in the stands, candles spelled out CURE on one side and HOPE on the other side. As the stadium lights were dimmed and only the candles providing light, there was silence as team members walked the field in honor of those who have fought this fight!

Our team had someone walking the track from the beginning at 6:00 pm until 7:15 am the next day.

With the help of many of the good peeps on this forum, Highland Lake Inn and the Season's restaurant team of 26 good folks walked the track and raised $3,247, far surpassing our $2,000 goal!

With your help, I raised $1050 online and matched an additional $575 for a total of $1,625!

There were 52 total teams, 930 participants.

Total money raised: $121,946!!!!!

Special thanks to all who came through to make this a success! You know who you are...we walked in memory of our many loved ones who have passed away fighting this horrible disease....and in honor of those fighting it now and winning one day at a time.....We will kick this cancer's ass I tell you!

In the meantime, I saw the hope and the strength and the positive enthusiasm in great evidence at this event! A community of people, young and old, working and celebrating together to accomplish something difficult, yet important and meaningful...helping to make a difference in our world!

Y'all did good...very good...Thanks!

Congrats!! That is awesome! I am SO looking forward to our relay! Last year the luminaries for ours wrote out HOPE. Our relay is in a small community just into Sask, on a old army base.
My team of 10 so far has raised about about $900, so not doing too bad considering 6 of us are from the same house!
Thanks for the pics and the update!!
