5 nights at Royal or 6 at GPR
Hello, everyone. I'm in the process of planning my Playa trip for the end of June (thanks to a board member for all your help so far
) and by my calculations, for about the same price I can either stay at the Royal for five nights or at the Gran Porto for six. Would you folks go for the extra night or the extra luxury? Thanks.

I dont know if I agree with you two... My motto is always that a cheap hotel in playa is better than staying home (or going home). Not that the GPR is cheap, by any means. I always go for the extra nights over luxury.

I've been to both resorts and for an adult couple traveling without kids, the Royal would be my choice hands down, even for one less day. I guess I'm a quality over quantity person but of course not everyone feels the same way. The food quality alone would be one reason, but the adults only atmosphere, nicer beach area, upscale rooms are all reasons for my choice of the Royal. The Gran was "OK" but just not in the same league as the Royal.
So...enjoy the Royal! ![]()

I would take the extra night! The Royal obviously is luxury, But if you tip the bartenders and waitstaff at the Gran Porto, they can make your stay a good choice. The bartender at the pool on the 3rd floor(Philipe) will get you anything you want!

You can't go wrong with either one.
I never stayed at the Royal, but it definitely is nice and more upscale than the GPR. Seeing as I never can get enough of Playa, I'd probably stay the extra night at the GPR. If you don't have kids, the Royal is probably where you want to be though. Again, you'll enjoy either place....perfect location, great service, great people. Did I mention perfect location!! ![]() Mike |

IMO Id take the extra day....
If you dont travel to Mexico on a regular basis the extra day for sure would be worth it to me to stay at the less luxurious resort of the 2. But, if I got to travel 3 or 4 times a year, Id probably go with the Royal. |

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I ended up going with The Royal (thanks for everything, Shammy!!!) from June 27th to July 2nd. I rationalized that I/we may not be back anytime soon, so why not make it as luxurious as possible? Granted, I could have made the same argument for the extra night, but I think five nights will be good for us. Thanks again, peeps!!

Just to reinforce how little I know as yet
,what/which Royal is being discussed?( Doesn't help that pretty much everything in PDC and Cancun seems to be" Royal "something or other ) Is this considered pretty much "it" for luxo in PDC? Would like to check out site but not sure which. Thanks Elysium |

Royal Playa Del Carmen is the resort discussed in this thread. If you want to be IN PDC, at the most luxurious resort, I'd say Royal Hideaway is probably the way to go. RPDC is popular though b/c it's a great, adults only resort, walking distance to town and on a great beach (Royal Hideaway's isn't so hot right now) oh, and it's also quite a bit cheaper. If you don't care about walking distances-there are tons of very nice resorts-Iberostar Grand and Secrets (3 properties) are a few.
