Your favorite beach clubs?
Going to PdC for the first time and have many searches on this site and made huge lists of many things to do, and have read about many faves and this is the only one i haven't really found.
So if you could, what are your favorite beach clubs? and why. Thanks. Last edited by atlonglast; 04-11-2009 at 06:28 PM.. |

I think that Mamita's and Kool are excellent due to the wide beach. If I were to venture away from those, I would try out No Limits. See this link on Day 4 of my TR where I talk about a tour of beach clubs I did this past January.

We liked Blucacao located in the building that Mareazul used as a sales office. It's a little bit of a trip either by car or taxi but it is not as crowded as Mamitas or Kool and the restaurant is excellent. It is owned by the same people that have Negra Sal. A beautiful infinity pool and lounges around it or you and opt for beds on the beach. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

This is good insight. If you are looking for cheaper and quieter beach clubs, Mamitas and Kool are not it. I like those clubs because 1) I don't end up eating/drinking much at the beach their priciness isn't an issue, 2) I enjoy a fair amount of activity for entertainment purposes. But I can certainly see why others would not.

The beach up north may be nicer- but we usually towel it when we spend the day there. The scene at Mamitas and Kool is *usually* too crowded for our liking. In centro Playa, we're fans of Pirata and some beach clubs closer to the ferry pier (names escape me ).

We spent 3 weeks in Playa last year and a LOT of that time at Kool. Although the waiters were friendly throughout our stay, they became super friendly and welcoming as the time passed and we were getting to be regulars (and we are good tippers, so that probably helped a bit
).I always wondered why people stayed south of Kool and Mamitas as the beach is not nearly as nice (IMO). I got my answer from all you Pirata fans! |

I like EL Pirata as well, mostly for the great lunches, best ChickenAzteca soup and a mean arracharra burger & fries.
But last trip we went to La Playa beachclub at XpuHa beach, the cab was about 200 pesos (we split it 4 ways) and 25 pesos each to get in at the entrance ( refundable if you bring your food and beverage receipt and bracelets back). The beach there is nothing short of great, the food is good and the Bohemia cold! Nice waiters and it is a much shorter ride ( 20 minutes) than going all the way to Tulum. And if Kathy or Vicki brings their flasks, well it's just about perfect! |

My experience
Last summer I took a "girls only" trip and spent everyday at Kool. (And no, we are/weren't hot young things in bikinis) On the first day, Jorge helped us with chairs and umbrellas. We ordered 2 mimosas not knowing that they would total 620 pesos~yes 620 not 62! (we learned a really hard lesson~DON'T ORDER CHAMPAGNE IN MEXICO!!!! ) Long story short, he appologized and explained that lots of people are insulted when you tell them that what they just ordered is extremely expensive. Anyway, after that faux ~ we all laughed and got over it. We sat in his area every day and he waited on us hand and foot. I guess my point is, if you make contact with them when you first arrive even if you have to flag them down and they see you want service, they are on it all day long! Just my 2 cents.
