Just got back last night. It was great, so glad that we were able to go. The convention was great also... but trying to do the convention during the day and then hanging out with the family at night, made for very long days and short nights. I am pooped!!

Nice! I want to take my wife and kids there next summer...did you hear the typical new orleans blues everywhere?

I actually did not hear that much of it... but I was a convention during the day and at night we would hang out at the Blue Oyster which is in the Garden District since we were staying at the Wyndham Park Avenue in the Garden District.

We will be in New Orleans next weekend and I was wondering if anyone has ever taken one of the many walking tours that are offered? Pam has been looking at some of the Haunted, Voodoo, and cemetary tours that are offered and she is showing some interest. I'm not a organized tour fan, but I am willing to at least think about it. Anybody tried one?

Yes. My wife and her friend took a couple. I was working, or would have liked to.

CAUTION. Don't tour the cemetary on your own. The cemetary borders the projects on the back side, and being on your own brings a high degree of getting mugged. In fact, there are a few (Don't go here alone) spots in New Orleans. I asked a cabbie once if I could walk from from one particular spot to another. He said "Oh ne sir! You'll get your ears cut off." I like my ears. They hold up my reading glasses.

There are lots of places you can walk, butthe general rule is " Stay with the crowds." No dark alley short cuts, etc...

I was there one other time about 15 years ago and was told then not to do the cemetary on our own, plus I have a co-worker from there and that was the first thing he told me. I definitely will not stray from the beaten path. I'm looking at either a cemetery tour or a ghost and vampire tour, but to be honest I'm just not excited about any type of organized tour. I will just keep quiet about it until Pam brings it up again. They are pretty cheap, with a number of them being offered on Groupon and Living Social

We were just there in August and I signed up for Groupon in New Orleans. I got a Groupon for a cemetary tour. It was great. We really enjoyed it. Hubby would have enjoyed it more if it wasn't the hottest day of our trip that day!!

I would have really liked it too. Colleen came back telling me all about it. I was jealous. Nothing a hurricane and some crawfish pie couldn't fix though.

Weather right now is perfect for NOLA right now, not to hot. But if you go when it is a home game for the Saints everything will be packed and lots of partys.

I think the Voodoo tour is a bit cheesy, but that is just me. The cemetary tours are way better imho. My favorite tour is the Riverboat ride on the Ms River.

We did not do the Voodoo tour... the kids were not interested in that one. I dragged them to the Cemetary tour, kicking and screaming, but they did enjoy it once we were there. I would have liked to do the Riverboat tour, but ran out of time.

Thanks Tappy! Groupon has a cemetary tour with Phantom Tours so I made a reservation for that one. If we change our mind when down there I'm not out much money. I will look into the Riverboat tour.

So far the weather calls for sunny and in the low to mid 70's, which would be perfect.

The Saints are in New York, which might mean a bad day for Bearcat.

I'm thinking the French Quarter will be hopping because of the Voodoo Music Festival. I'm hoping for some good people photos.
