You can count on it. People at work told me that if I didn't stop talking about my vacation then I am going to have a difficult time boarding the plane with two broken legs. |

According to Federal Authorities all basic services will remain operational: banks, transportation (airports, buses, trains, ferries), supermarkets, pharmacies, etc. AND, if there are tons of tourist leaving town, then the ADO bus will want a share of that business, maybe the buses will go empty from the airport, but on the way back they will have more than enough customers to compensate. |

Basically is the Flu, version 2.piggy01 Docs didn't know how to deal with it at the begining, but today they know which antiviral to use. Half of the 2,500 or so cases in Mexico city has been initially treated at the hospitals and after been stabilized, sent home with their medicine. sooooooo, it's a variation as you said.

After we had our reported case here I got a number of phonecalls- and surprisingly they all just wanted to have reconfirmed that staying calm was okay, not the other way 'round. ![]() My personal prediction at this point (IF this thing doesn't mutate or develop resistance) is that it will be a pandemic but will die out quite quickly because it is treatable and new cases are being monitored. What one has to keep in mind when reading reports etc. is this: the normal flu goes around every year without as many people being tested for it and/ or this being in the media. If one monitored a "normal flu season" the scheme of spreading etc. would likely not look much different than what we are seeing now. Only that this time the media makes it look like this is oh so different and new and dangerous. My personal advice: don't listen to the media- if you need info go to the WHO and CDC websites and inform yourself there, directly. |

News in Germany is that there is the first confirmed case of human-human transmission here. Apparently someone who came back from Mexico infected a nurse. Both are already up and well again.
Which tells us: yes, it is spreading from human to human BUT it is very treatable. The fact that it seems to run quite mild/ like an average influenza has been emphasized in the press here again. |

Thank you for that report from the BBC. My wife and I are leaving in 26 hours and that makes us feel more confident about our decision to go!

UPDATED: Western Oregon U closing after swine flu case found
by The Oregonian Thursday April 30, 2009, 10:38 PM Western Oregon University announced late tonight that it would close through Monday after a student turned up with a probable case of swine flu at the Monmouth campus. In a letter released even later, Western Oregon President John Minihan said the student fell ill earlier this week. The student "tested positive for influenza A at the WOU Student Health Center. The student, who lives off campus, is receiving medical treatment," he wrote. University officials closed the school on the recommendation of the Oregon Health Department. A public health investigation is under way to determine how the student was infected, said Patty Wentz, a Department of Human Services spokeswoman. She did not know whether this was one of four suspected cases mentioned in a news conference earlier today. "There are tests coming in, tests getting knocked out," Wentz said. "The bottom line is the swine flu is here in Oregon." Oregon Local News, Breaking News, Sports & Weather - OregonLive.com |

I'm hoping so anyway. Already had my first trip cancelled by the TTO (supposed to come to Playa this Monday coming). I've changed it to the 1st June in the hope that it is all a big hoo haa. Failing that I'm thinking of St Petes Beach in Florida. |
