Options are many for ET phone home:
- Buy a prepaid card that you can use at any phone (payphone or residential), not as expensive as a regular call, you dial an 01-800 number, input the looong code in the back of the card and then get switched to the USA and dial as usual. - Go to an internet cafe and call via VOIP with a computer, maybe using SKYPE or something similar. If you don't have a Skype account use the cafe's voice service. - Buy a simcard for your cellphone and some credit. Not the cheapest way. How often you need to call home? |

I love the ET phone home
![]() I need a prepaid phone card. I have no clue how to use VOIP and I know my cell would cost way too much. I am going to PDC with a friend and we both have 3 kids each that we would want to talk to daily for a few minutes at least. I just need to know which phone card is good...I have never bought/ used one for international travel. Thanks again for your help

When in Playa, I walk down 5th Avenue and buy a Tel-Mex phone card at one of the shops. I believe you have to use one of the Tel-Mex payphones to use it, but I've had no problems in 2 trips calling the US with it. To use it, you follow the instructions....something like...dial 01-800 and then the number you're calling. No problems. There are plenty of phone cards to buy in Playa.

Or just walk into one of the many telephone offices on the street and dial home. Not the cheapest, probably 50 cents a minute, but quick and easy and no unused card minutes to lose. Another idea is TracFone. These are prepaid minute phones from Radio Shack, Walmart, and others. Phone and a starter card of minutes start at $10.00 and you can then buy more minutes as needed. The feature that could be interesting is a program that lets you call a TracFone in the US from a local phone (not a cell) in Mexico and only pay local rates.
