How is Playa in late October early November?
We are headed to Playa this week and are already trying to plan our next trip! We have only been there in May and we are thinking of trying to do a fall trip too. How is it down there then? How long is hurricane season? Thanks everyone!

All my trips over the last 5 years have been in late Feb except one. In 2007 I also visited late Oct-early Nov. It was a bit warmer and certainly quieter than Feb, but the biggest surprise was that many guests in the hotel were Mexican. I was told it was becasue of the national holiday on November 1, Dia de los Muertos. The celebration of Halloween and
DdlM was an interesting aspect I didn't see in Feb. |

Interesting. We too have always visited in Feb/Mar but couldn't turn down the great airfares around recently. We are going back for a bonus trip 10/31-11/07.Can you give more info on the holiday you mentioned? What sort of activity goes along with it?Fun,I trust ( can you trick or treat along the beach bars for beer?

We have been to Playa in late November. Beautiful weather. We noticed that the pool was colder, the sun dissapeared from our hotel's pool around 4pm. Nice time to have a stroll on the beach! I needed a lightweight cardigan for evening and asked for a blanket for bed ( I like warm ) Wouldn't stop me going again though.

I (transposting as Mrs BF here!) went down on girls wk last wk Oct/first few days nov over Halloween and Dia del Los Muertes. Actually I think I prefer D del LM to Halloween! Very interesting to see all the 'altars' set up all over the place. I gather thats also a good time to go to Xcaret over this holiday ....Michelle has a blog entry with pics all about it I seem to remember.
There were kids on 5th dressed SOO cutely and ornately too (my kids can't wear skimpy costumes like that in canada over a snowsuit!). We bought treats to give out on 5th on the 31st to give to the kids which was fun (and the big kids at the Beer Bucket later with the leftovers!). There was the big Halloween Bash going on at La Rana. However, having given away all our goodies on the 31st, we were then dismayed to see that actually the kids 'trick or treat' almost all wk....cuz they were out in full force again the next night and the next! so just keep a purse with candies in it for all wk long! The weather was definately cooler....a lot cloudier. We lucked out tho as it had been raining every day all day for the month of october previous to our arrival - which is not the norm. We landed in a horrendous rainstorm and weren't allowed off the plane for 1 hr as it thunder/lightninged its way around us! Then that was it. We did get plenty of sun thru the clouds. As I'm a complete wimp in the cooler temps, we did need long sleeved sweaters/pants in the evenings. If I'd had them, I could have worn jeans and not been hot - at night! |

I've been to PDC several times in early November. It can be a little rainy or not. It's usually cooler highs in the mid to high 70's and lows in the 50's. Many people really enjoy this time of year since you don't need air conditioning (unless the rain makes it muggy).

make sure you get tickets to Xcaret. Dia de los Muertos celebrations are lovely to watch, usually go on 4 days.

October is a great time to be here, great prices with less crowds. The days are hot, but you do have a higher possibility of rain. It is cooler in the evenings, but t.shirts are enough most of the time.
Hurricane season starts officially in June, and ends October 31st. |
