The area north of Constituyentes is changing every week. They are working on the plumbing and improving the streets. It's difficult to know what it will look like next week or next month. Hotels are also being built - this area is growing fast.
So - in general I can say this: all the hotels in this area are nice. Riviera del Sol and Villa Amanecer are both hotels that I would recommend. The Tukan Beach Club is very nice and the beach is excellent. As to the construction - while they do use the occasional heavy machine most of the work is done by hand, which is not nearly as disturbing. Just be careful walking around as holes are sometimes left unmarked. |

My husband and I stayed at the Villa Amanecer for two weeks in January. This was our third trip to Playa. The hotel is nice. The staff friendly. No TV which we missed early in the mornings. The walk to the Tukan Beach Club was half a block on dirt road. The beach was excellent. Free pass from hotel for Club beach chairs. We really enjoyed walking to town daily. Saw more of Playa this time

Has anyone stayed at the new Hotel Riviera Maya Caribe on North PDC? I just booked a Room for September. The price was great $48 and includes use of the Tucan Beach Club. It looks nice on the website but was wondering if anyone had some info.

We own a condo in Las Palmas - one block up from Villa Amenecer. This area is growing tremendously - and from what I heard from our last renter - the streets are pretty torn up at this time. But El Tukan Beach Club and Las Mamitas are located on the nicest beach in Playa. There are many new restaurants right on Fifth in this area - La Vagabonda, Las Delicias and a new deli which serves hotels located right in our complex on 10th. On the corner of 5th and 26th there is a new small restaurant, store and internet cafe (with telephone booths if you would like to place long distance calls very cheap. Mike the owner is from TX and is very helpful. He has helped our renters rent cars, secure tours and passes the savings on to the guests. It is a relatively cheap area (but prices will go up once the streets are completed). The hotels are all new - clean and service is very good. We will be going this week (May 4) so if you email me I can give you an update when we return. We have posted FAQ and answers on our site - http://www.playadelcarmenvacation.com which provides quite a bit of information about he area. It's a nice place to be (even with the construction) because I do believe that within a year it will be quite crowded - as I heard a Hard Rock Cafe is opening on the corner of 5th and Constituyentes - so enjoy it while you can.

If someone is going to Playa without hotel arrangement have a look at Quinta Nahui on 22nd and 5th ave. next to Restaurant Las Delicias (which is a good place to eat). Sometimes there are rooms available. Have a look at http://www.quintanahui.com

We certainly liked the Hotel Da Gabi (AND its restaurant). Pretty rustic, but adequate. Also, for free, if you have a room facing the ocean breezes, you get all the sounds of the beach band at the ****** until about 2 AM. Can be a mellow way to go to sleep. But since there are no screens, remember to use the mosquito net.
The best breakfast there is the French toast and fruit! [ This Message was edited by: BarbC on 2001-05-25 23:34 ] |

Have stayed at the north end of town both times in Playa. We stayed the first time at the El Tucan and were not impressed. Last Feb. we stayed at the Posada Mariposa, a small, quaint but very clean hotel on 5th and around calle 24/26. Carlos and Pawla we excellant hosts as were the staff. The price was right and this section of town is close to the beach club as well as some excellant resturants. We are coming back in Jan. but trying the Prisma Caribe which is in the same area and very clean with a friendly atmosphere.

Sorry, but I can't resist asking: what prompted you to pull up a thread well over 3 years old? Was this the result of a search? I couldn't figure out why PlayaInfo was suddenly allowing guests to post without registering. Then I saw the dates of the post.
