The Anna T. and Mellie D. Quitter Thread

I know there's a quit smoking thread, but Anna and I thought we needed our own! We both started Chantix today and will try to beat the evil ciggies together: from Toledo to La Tortuga!

Quit date after a week on Chantix: June 8! We shall report all of our awesome, vivid dreams as well.

Wish us luck, egg us on, kick our butts, tell us your own quit smoking story!!!

I'm behind you 100% and I will be here for you. If I can do anything, please let me know. I love you guys and you helped me out SOOOO much when I was fighting cancer. It's been over seven months since I smoked on a cigarette, and if I can do it, anyone can. I smoked like a chimney!

Yay you guys!!!!

Thank you ladies! Yep the " quit smoking" time has come...I want to quit!! Took the first 0.5 mg pill this morning, and no effect yet ( have smoked this morning ), but i've been told that we need at least 4 days for the drug to start its action. I CAN'T WAIT ! ( to stop smoking, not for the drug effects ahahahahah ).-
I'm so happy to be doing this with Mel, 2 is a good number, we will be able to share ( also with y'all) all the crisis times and hate the world times- i'm sure we will have many in the weeks to come...
WISH US LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does it have similar side effects as Zyban I wonder (which I used to help me quit)? I had interrupted sleep and was a bit anxious/jittery, full of energy (usually a good thing), lost weight, and had some weird dreams. I have heard Chantix/Champix has fewer side effects, I hope so.

Mike used Chantix to help him quit smoking. He REALLY needed to do it, as he suffers from heart palpitations and would actually black out from them....it happened once when we were driving down Route 307 just past Tulum! Smoking wasn't helping THAT situation AT ALL!

At any rate ~ the Chantix worked like a charm. Minimal weight gain and very few cravings. Mike has now been smoke free for 2 years and 5 months!

Good luck to you both! I KNOW you can do it!

Deep breathing helps when you feel crazy! Very deep inhale..take in even more air..you can do it....now hold for a minute...then.......very, very slow exhale.....again...5 times....when you quit inhaling cigarette smoke, you actually quit inhaling all that extra oxygen too...you will come up short if you do not do deep breathing....

Exercise, good diet...don't get drunk...no pot.....for awhile....

Once you quit...........NEVER, ever have another tobacco product..not ever.

Yoga helps.......Focus.....you can do it....

I wish you much strength and persistence.....and a little luck....if I can do it, you can do it.

Biggest side effects are nausea and sleep issues (lack of/vivid dreams).

It is not an anti-depressent like Zyban. Chantix blocks seratonin and "pleasure" receptors in your brain so that the cig does not have the same impact on you physically. What I've read is that it makes you say, eh, so what?

Anna, you should check out the support on the website. I got my first email and I think I'm gonna follow the steps for what they're calling "preparation week" and keep a smoking log.

The best advice I can give you is: once you have quit, don't smoke again.

I am so behind you two or anyone else that is trying to quit. I hope this is an ongoing thread and some others jump on board!!

Weight gain? Don't get drunk?

Just kidding, I am prepared for all obstacles. I'll just keep thinking that I'll want to exercise more when I can breath without getting winded.

THIS is VERY important!! NO...you CANNOT have JUST ONE...as it will send you spiraling back into smoking. I quit a 4 pack a day habit in 1982 and I know that if I was to smoke JUST ONE CIGARETTE, I'd be back at it again!
